NWA – ECW
Viking Hall
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Taped July 9th
Aired July 13th
· Opening montage set to “Thunder Kiss ‘65” by White Zombie * plays during the montage. After concluding, the scene shifts to Joey Styles and “Superstar” Billy Graham, in front of a ECW banner, going over the program for today.
Styles : Good evening fans, and welcome to another edition of Eastern Championship Wrestling.
Tonight is the night, everyone. Tonight is the night that we crown a inaugural ECW champion and it has come down to two individuals. One on side, you have the Russian Nightmare, Nikita Koloff. One of the most feared individuals to ever compete in the National Wrestling Alliance but after getting his neck injured last week in his match against Tazmaniac, will he have what it takes to secure a win over the other man in this final; Shane Douglas.
Shane Douglas pulled off what some would call a ingenious move, getting the legendary Masked Superstar to get himself DQ’ed and himself advanced into today’s Main Event.
Graham : Joey Styles, say what you will, but what Shane Douglas did last week, even though it was cheap, was still effective. He went into a situation where the odds were stacked against him and triumphed and overcame what could have been a bad spot but I’m sure that the Heenan family isn’t done with him by a sight.
Styles : I’m sure you’re right, Billy. But for now, we turn you to some footage from a house show event recently at the St. John’s Arena in Steubenville, Ohio, which featured a tag match between Blanchard and Rhodes taking on Sullivan and nutcase extraordinare, Mega Mahari.
A busted up Rhodes is dropping rights on a equally bloody Mahari, in the middle of the ring as Blanchard and Sullivan look on, in their respective corners. Mahari had had the upper hand but Dusty is making the comeback. Rhodes winds up after a few rights then hits the bionic elbow. Mahari goes down and Rhodes staggers over to his corner and makes the hot tag to Blanchard.
Blanchard hits the ring and lays out Sullivan with a clothesline then hits a double axehandle on Mahari, sending him over the top rope. Sullivan staggers back into the fray and Blanchard hits him with a Thesz press now, pummeling Sullivan.
At this point, Tazmaniac is seen coming from the back and attacks a distracted Rhodes from behind, as Rhodes had attacked Mahari. Both Taz and Mahari are stomping the Dream now as Fallen Angel produces a pair of handcuffs. The pair holds Rhodes as Fallen Angel handcuffs him to the ringside railing and then the pair goes in the ring to attack Blanchard. All three are attacking Blanchard before they tie him to the, “Tree of Woe”. Mahari and Taz each holds a leg while Mahari also holds a chair against Blanchard’s midsection. Sullivan then repeatedly kicks the chair into Blanchard’s stomach a few times before Nikita Koloff, Hawk and Misawa charges in to clear the ring. Officials are attempting to get Rhodes loose from the railing as the others check on Blanchard, who seems to be doubled up in what appears, excruciating pain.

Rhodes : Kevin Sullivan. What you managed to do las’ week to Tully Blanchard was reprehensible. Dusty Rhodes, “The American Dream”, has been up and down an’ all ‘round this world and it takes a lot to surpris’ Dusty Rhodes but you managed to do just that. Wha’ you deed to Tully Blanchard was downright dirty, Jack. An’ sittin’ in that E-Are wit’ Tully wuz one of the scaries’ sights I ever seen. He had to be admitted and the doctors are sayin’ that he might ne’er be back to the competitor that he wuz.
You put ‘im out, baby but you didn’ get the job done. As long as the American Dream is breathin’, I’m gonna make it my mission to put you and those crazy people you have surroundin’ you out, Daddy. I’m gonna get payback for Tully Blanchard, Kevin Sullivan. Everythin’ you did to him and for everythin’ you’ve done in your career is comin’ back to you, ten fold, if you wheel. It don’t matta if it’s in the Blue Horizon theater, Viking Hall, St. John’s Arena. It don’t matta if it’s in Tokyo, Berlin or Los Angeles, baby, you bes’ look over your shoulders because the American Dream is comin’ for ya.

Jim and Festus tries to get the momentum going with the smaller Misawa but finds out the star from Japan is not one to be trifled with as he quickly turns the tables and alternates between the two, with vicious forearms. Misawa tags in Hawk, who hits Festus with a clothesline, grabbing up the pin as Misawa hits a Tiger Driver on Festus.

Shane Douglas v Nikita Koloff : Finals of the ECW Title Tournament
Nikita Koloff appears in the ring first, head shaven and loaded for bear. He moves about the ring as “Perfect Strangers” by Deep Purple starts playing, bringing out Shane Douglas.
Douglas tells the ref to back off Koloff as the big Russian starts moving in on him. After a couple of moments, Douglas finally gets in the ring and moves to the center, where John Finnegan is holding up the ECW title. Douglas and Koloff stands nose to nose in the ring, jawing back and forth before Douglas makes the mistake of pushing the Russian Nightmare. Koloff grins at this and shoves Douglas so hard he rebounds off the ropes and RIGHT INTO A CHARGING SICKLE BY KOLOFF!!!
Douglas scrambles right back up and gets hoisted into the air and slammed by Koloff and the crowd erupts. Douglas scoots into a corner while on his backside, looking up at Koloff with saucerwide eyes as Koloff flexes, sticking out his tounge in the process.
(tv static)
The match gets a little more even as Douglas hits Koloff with a spinning neckbreaker as Koloff had attempted to back body drop Shane. Both men are showing a little wear but Koloff is a little worse as he starts holding the neck that was injured last week against Tazmaniac. Shane gets a couple of close call 2 counts but just can’t seem to put away Nikita.
Douglas keeps a rear chinlock on the bigger Koloff, digging a knee into Koloff’s back and the crowd is staying in this match, cheering on the Russian. Koloff gets to his knees a couple of times but Douglas is able to keep him down.
(tv static)
A couple of moments later, Masked Superstar, of all people, comes down to the ring and starts pounding on the mat for Koloff to get to his feet. Douglas spies this and those watching can hear Douglas, telling Superstar to, “MIND YOUR F$$$$$G BUSINESS!!”
Douglas gets distracted just enough for Koloff to start the adrenline flowing and ram Douglas into a corner and both men are just tired now. Superstar seems pleased with himself and leaves the ringside area, looking back as Nikita starts delivering forearm shots to Douglas. Nikita is favoring his neck however and those blows just seem to catch up to him, having him hold back, just a little though he sends Douglas down to his backside, in the corner.
Koloff picks up Douglas and whips him into the ropes and gets a ECW chant started as he almost flips Douglas over with the ferocious maneuver. Finnegan checks on Nikita as someone, wearing a policeman riot helmet, crawls out from under the ring, handing Douglas something.
No one can tell who it is and the man is at ringside stays there now, encouraging Douglas to get to his feet. Douglas gets up just as Koloff pushes Finnegan away. Finnegan hits his head on the turnbuckle from the push and is holding his head as Koloff turns and runs right into a fist from Shane and quarters fly all over the ring.
The mystery man at ringside is pounding the ringside mat and Finnegan turns to see Douglas covering Koloff. Finnegan makes the count and SHANE DOUGLAS gets the win!!!
“NO. NO. THIS ISN’T RIGHT” yells Styles during commentary as the mystery man climbs into the ring and hoists Douglas’ arm in victory.
