Tony Schiavone: Welcome everyone to World Championship Wrestling, and this is Saturday Night! I'm Tony Schiavone, joined as always by Jesse The Body Ventura. Jesse, big show tonight. The WCW Tag Team champions Sting and Lex Luger are here, they'll be in action later on.
Jesse Ventura: I'll tell you what I'm looking forward to tonight. I get to interview the United States champion Ravishing Rick Rude, and from what I understand, he's got a lot on his mind.
Tony Schiavone: Indeed he does. Also the tournament to crown a new WCW TV champion begins tonight. In a first round match, it's Robbie V against Chris Benoit.
Jesse Ventura: Two young up and comers, two hungry wrestlers. This is what I like to see, and I think we're in for a fight tonight!
Tony Schiavone: All that and a whole lot more. When we return though from commercial break, it's Johnny B. Badd. We'll be right back!

Johnny B. Badd vs Terra Ryzing
Badd has a pretty easy go in this one. While Ventura puts over Ryzing as having a lot of potential, it barely shows here when Badd connects with "The Kiss That Don't Miss", a big right hook. He pins him in a matter of minutes, picking up a big victory to open up the show. It gets mentioned during the match that Badd is one of the 8 competitors that will be in the tournament to crown a new TV champion, which begins later tonight.
Jesse Ventura: I'm joined now by the United States champion, Ravishing Rick Rude. In my opinion, you've never looked better than in recent weeks. What's next for the Ravishing one?
Rick Rude: Jesse, coming from The Body, to say I've never looked better I take as a high compliment. I come out here week after week, and I beat wrestler after wrestler. I think it's about time that I get some recognition around here.
Jesse Ventura: What do you mean champ?
Rick Rude: Champ is a title thrown around quite loosely these days in the WCW. You see, I am the number one champion in WCW, but everybody seems to think differently. Ron Simmons is a joke, and I think it is about time that I get a shot at the WCW Heavyweight champion so I can become not one, but TWO champions.
Jesse Ventura: That's a tall order. Simmons has been unstoppable thus far.
Rick Rude: Unstoppable Jesse, because he hasn't faced me!
Jesse Ventura: Alright you heard it here first. Rick Rude laying it down for Ron Simmons. Will he accept the challenge? We will find out.

Joey Maggs vs Vince Torelli
Newcomer Torelli (Ken Shamrock) has little problem in this showcase of skills. After using a submission based attack, Torelli hits a big Belly to Belly Suplex onto Maggs and puts him away in short order for a pinfall victory. Torelli will also be competing in the tournament to crown a new TV champion, in fact facing the man previously in action Johnny B. Badd in the first round.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, I'm joined now by the reigning WCW Tag Team champions, Sting and Lex Luger. You two will be in action later on tonight.
Lex Luger: That's right Tony Schiavone. Myself and the Stinger, we are the number one tag team in WCW and we shy away from no team. No matter who it is, no matter where it is, we will beat all comers. Tonight it's Rick Martel and Johnny Ace in a non title match, but believe me, if they can get the job done they will be first in line for a shot. But that's not going to happen, is it Stinger?
Sting: OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! WCW, Saturday Night, and I am feeling jacked to the gills here tonight! You know I almost feel sorry for these two chumps that have to face us in the ring because plain and simply, we are at the top of our game right now. We might be the WCW Tag Team champions right now, but it won't be long before the two of us are the new NWA Tag Team champions.
Tony Schiavone: Is that a challenge for the Steiner Brothers?
Sting: Hey man, all they gotta do is sign on the dotted line. They know what the deal is. We've done this before, they've done it before, and we think that they're a team that would welcome the challenge.
Lex Luger: That's right Stinger. The Steiner Brothers are a tough team, but when you put them next to Sting and myself, the Total Package, everybody will see just who the dominant tag team is.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, Lex Luger and Sting! When we come back, it's the first match in the tournament for the WCW TV championship.

Robbie V vs Chris Benoit
Both of these men want the win in this one! After trading the advantage early on, Benoit seems to be the man to beat. Robbie V though is able to counter the technical side of Benoit with an aerial offense, and eventually puts Benoit on the ropes. After a series of near falls, Robbie V comes off the top rope with a kick to the face of Benoit and goes to cover, only for the bell to ring. The announcement is made that the two have fought to 10 minute draw. This means that BOTH men are eliminated from the tournament. Robbie V asks for 5 more minutes, and once up, Benoit would seem to agree with this. The referee though is insistent that the match is over. While they are both eliminated, it looks like we may not have seen the last of these two.

Tony Schiavone: Right now I'm joined by newcomer to WCW, Marty Jannetty.
Marty Jannetty: Thank you. It's great to be here in WCW. I've been out rocking and rolling, but now it's time to get down to business Mr. Schiavone. This tournament to crown a new TV champion, it's a big deal to me. The quality of the talent in there makes this my chance to shine and prove myself as a singles competitor in the sport of wrestling. That match we just saw is exactly why I'm here, and why I'm going after the TV championship.
Tony Schiavone: That it was. Just like that, the field goes from 8 down to 6.
Marty Jannetty: I'm not going to concern myself with any of that. I've still gotta get through Johnny Ace. From what I know of Ace though, he's just some dynamic dude, and I'm a rocker. From the parties I've been too, it's the rockers that always leave on top!
Tony Schiavone: Alright, thank you Marty. We look forward to that one. Right now, more action with another man in the tournament.
Steve Regal vs Mark Starr
U.K.'s own Steve Regal, a dynamic baby face having just debuted in WCW, has little trouble in this warmup match here tonight. The commentary mentions that Regal's first round match with Rick Martel is next week here on Saturday Night. Only moments later, Regal locks Starr in a submission hold known as the Regal Stretch and has him screaming uncle to give it up. Regal with the win, but it won't be that easy against Martel next week.

Jesse Ventura: I'm here now with the reigning WCW Heavyweight champion Ron Simmons. We heard earlier the challenge from Ravishing Rick Rude. What do ya say?
Ron Simmons: I didn't get to be where I am by ducking and dodging the competition. Rick Rude wants a piece of me? I say bring it. I'm the WCW Heavyweight champion, and that makes me number one. Rick Rude can say what he wants, but until he takes this title off of me, he's just number two.
Jesse Ventura: So you're accepting then?
Ron Simmons: I'll accept when Rick Rude comes out here and challenges me to my face. I'm not a hard man to find. If Rick Rude wants a match for this, alls he got to do is come out here and look me in the eye man to man. I'm a competitor, and if Rick Rude wants to hide behind announcers-
Jesse Ventura: Alright, alright. Next week, you're here, he's here. I'll produce it. Ron Simmons, Rick Rude face to face.
Ron Simmons: Sounds good to me. Rick Rude wants this? Then come and get it!
Jesse Ventura: Alright, looks like we might have a title match in the near future coming our way. I'll see what I can do, but if Ron's willing to give it a go, I can't imagine after what we heard earlier that Ravishing Rick won't be right behind him. Back to you Tony!
Sting & Lex Luger vs Rick Martel & Johnny Ace
The WCW Tag Team champions step into the ring here for non title action. While Martel and Ace have never teamed before, they show some good team work in this one and almost pull off the upset as Martel is able to lock Sting in the Boston Crab. Sting gets out though, and Luger gets the tag in to face Ace. Luger runs wild on the opponents, and it's only a matter of time before he's able to put Ace up into the Torture Rack. As Ace hangs on for dear life, he tries to avoid the inevitable, but eventually has no choice. Ace submits, and Sting and Luger are the victors in this one. The announcers speculate that it might not be long before we get a match with them against the Steiner Brothers for the NWA Tag Team championship.
With that, the show goes off the air with the Saturday Night logo, and the announcers reminding viewers to come back for more next week at 6:05 eastern on TBS.
