Southwest Heavyweight Championship: Dory Funk Jr.
Texas legend Dory Funk Jr. continues to turn back the challengers for the Sourhwest belt he has held for the last four months. Dory has had his hands full with the young big 'Dangerous Dan Spivey who has come close on a few occassions but hasn't been able to wrestle the belt from the champ.Spivey has managed to win a Texas Death match over the champ but that will not get him the belt. Also making noise for the belt are Mexico's Perro Aguayo and Japan's The Great Kabuki with manager Sir Oliver Humperdink. Dory is looking from Amarillo to challenge World's Heavyweight Champ Ricky Steamboat the next time he comes to the Southwest territory. Biggest news is the Honky Tonk Man and Peggy Sue are on their way to Southwest.
Southwest Tag Team Champions: Demolition w/mgr. 'Precious' Paul Ellering
Demolition hit the territory two months ago and knocked off the popular tag champs Manny Fernandez and Chavo Guerro from El Paso in two weeks in San Antonio. The very night the challengers brought in 'Precious' Paul Ellering as their manager and he was the decisive factor in the match. The wiley Ellering has made an unpopular impression on the Texas fans with his outrageous comments on the fans. The champs have their hands full with the rough and tough but popular tag team of the Texas Hangmen who scored a TV non-title challenge win over the champs last week. The champs and their manager protested the decision but SW President Joe Blanchard said the decision stood. They face title matches against a team as vicious as them.
Southwest Junior Heavyweight Championship: 'Mr. Electricity' Steve Regal
The equaly unpopular jr champ Steve Regal drew the fans hatred when he cheated to take the Southwest Jr. Belt off of the popular Luche Libre star Blue Demon Jr. three weeks ago in Laredo. The cocky blonde champ has avoided the Demon with wins over Steve Simpson and Guerrero. The Blue Demon, Jr. has vowed to get his belt back and the fans are behind him.
Southwest Women's Championship: Wendi Richter
The ever-populer Wendi Richter from Dallas captured the title in an 8-woman battle royal six weeks ago in Austin and has been a busy champ with defenses against the cocky Magnificent Mimi and the improving Allison Royal.
Sir Oliver Humperdink's House of Humperdink is made up of the Great Kabuki and Kendo Nagasaki and they have been creating havoc. They tried to sign the up-and-coming Masa Chono but he refused. His reward for a a brutal attack on San Antonio TV by his fellow countrymen. Rurmor has it that Chono is bringing in Kensuke Sasaki to help him with his battle with the House of Humperdink.
