NWA: Eastern Championship Wrestling presents ...
An Evening at the Original Sports Bar!
12.2.1993
from the Original Sports Bar
Another week, another ECW show at the Original Sports Bar. Full house of the Philly faithful hitting the booze and ready for the fisticuffs to begin. Tod Gordon opens the show with a little hyping of the next big show ... Holiday Hell.
The Cosmic Commander is out first, ready to continue his feud with JT Smith. The Commander rips on Smith but is quickly put in his place when Smith reminds him that he's beaten whoever the Commander's brought to the ring. A big boy, the Samoan Warrior, hits the ring and attacks before the bell. Big beating in the early going until JT Smith makes his come back. Not only did Smith continue his winning streak but was also able to give the Commander the boot to send him flying off the ring apron out onto the floor.
Last week, the preppy little guy in the pink Izod shirt and shorts took a beatdown from one of the Tazmaniacs. This week? Him and a partner, Chad Austin, find themselves staring across the ring from both Mako and Noga with manager Tony Rumble. As expected, this one is a squasher with Rumble unleashing his beasts and they go to town. Chad makes a run for the back, leaving Joe College to take the fall ... several times. Afterwards, Rumble rattles on about his guys being the next tag team champs.
These guys went at it last week in tag team action, but today, it is a singles match with Jimmy Stone facing JC Ice. Ice riles the crowd up first as only he can before turning his attention to his opponent. Without their seconds, this turns into an interesting match that allows both to do what they do best. Stone takes things to the mat at every chance while Ice cheats, does a little high flying, a little comedy and escapes to the outside of the ring. Tide turns on the outside when Ice waffles Stone with a chair which brings GQ Dreamer and brother Tommy out. Waving a book in referee Finnegan's face, GQ Dreamer reads him the riot act which gives Ice a chance to get in an extra shot. The fans boo as GQ reads from the book and Ice runs Stone back into the ring. Tommy pulls GQ away, allowing the ref to get back into the ring. Ice with a running kneelift puts Stone down and a fistdrop from the top ends the match.
After the match, Professor Falk runs down to the ring and we have a confrontation between Falk and GQ. Tommy steps inbetween the two while GQ starts reading from his book once again. Falk shakes his head and leads Stone to the back.
Newcomer Pat Tanaka makes his debut against Christopher Michaels with his manager Hunter Q. Robbins III. Good match with both men trying to nail the other with a superkick. While Michales struts around like a peacock, Tanaka shows his martial arts prowess, scaring Robbins away several times. After a legsweep, Tanaka scores with a big chop to the chest on the downed Michaels but is only able to score a 2 count. A frustrated Michaels tries to land his kick but misses each one and draws a counterblow each time. Tanaka seems to be having fun which only makes Michaels angrier. Michaels goes for broke, misses a kick that Tanaka ducks before coming up with one of his own. Flush on the target and down goes Michaels while Robbins squeals about not hitting the face.
We move on to Tommy Cairo and the Rockin Rebel. Nose to nose action as the two have words which leads to a shoving match. Hard hitting and stiff, just a good old fashioned brawl. Inside and outside of the ring, they throw each other around. Cairo is busted open after being smacked over the head with the ring bell. He retaliates with a back suplex on the floor. The ref gets shoved out of the way as they go at it. Rebel struts around the ring following a lowblow. A boot stomping and Rebel goes on a tirade about wanting the Sandman in the ring ... check that, he wants the Beach Babe because he has something for her. Should have kept his eye on his opponent. Cairo wraps his arms around Rebel from behind, adjusts the weight and flattens him with a big back suplex. Not bothering with the pinfall, Cairo drops a snot rocket before walking off to the back. Rockin Rebel ain't getting up but picks up the win thanks to Cairo leaving.
Tag team action in the Main with the Dreamers facing the Bon Jovi Boys. Speedy little match with the Boys using their speed and aerial moves to confound Tommy while GQ waves his book around from his corner. Tommy derails them with a big double clothesline that puts them down. GQ in and textbook wrestling while still jawing with the referee. After putting Dean Bon Jovi down, GQ wheels around and catches Don trying to come into the ring which is immediately pointed out to the referee. Rather than making a tag, GQ retrieves his book and starts reading it to the ref and Don Bon Jovi. Not a popular move but GQ brings in Tommy and we get a double suplex. We get both Bon Jovi Boys jumping in on Tommy and GQ is again reprimanding the referee for not calling for a disqualification. Tommy gets a working over but GQ with a book shot to the head puts an end to that. GQ directs Tommy to finish off his opponent. Shaking off the cobwebs, Tommy with a DDT drops Don Bon Jovi and picks up the pinfall.
With Tommy still a little woozy, GQ raises his brother's arm while giving the ref an earful. They are joined by Professor Tony Falk and Jimmy Stone who have something to say to the referee while pointing at the book, then at the downed Bon Jovi. We get a shovefest between the two as Stone and Tommy step in. Ring fills quickly as JC Ice and Wolfie D run in. Throw in Tony Rumble leading the Tazmaniacs to the ring and we have a free for all! We get some brawling until only the Tazmaniacs are left in the ring.
