FMW Vs. W*ING
Art imitating life is on top of the FMW cards right now. From Wiki:
After leaving Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling in the summer of 1991, Kazuyoshi Osako and Kiyoshi "Mickey" Ibaragi founded Wrestling International New Generations (W*ING), with Osako as President and Ibaragi as Vice President. They would also lure away Mr. Pogo and Victor Quinones from FMW, taking away their number one heel and booker/talent exchanger.
For years the promotions have been at war, problem is W*ING's finacials are a huge mess and over the last few months both top heel Mr. Pogo, & top baby face Mitsuhiro Matsunaga have bolted from W*ING to FMW. Together they are currently the top heel act, under the W*ING name, doing the outsider thing with former W*ING alumni: Hideki Hosaka & Masaru Toi backing them up. Mr. Pogo has already put FMW founder Atsushi Onita over, unsuccessfully challenging for Onita's Brass Knuckles Championship in an Exploding Barbed Wire Match back on August 23rd. Onita has since lost the championship, but is scheduled to defend FMW's honor on December the 8th against Matsunaga in an in a No Ropes Exploding Barbed wire Explosive Corners Death Match. Also on the very same show the FMW trio of Mr. Gannosuke, Koji Nakagawa & Katsutoshi Niiyama will take it to the W*ING trio of Hideki Hosaka & Masaru Toi & and mystery partner in one of W*ING's speciality matches: A Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Scramble! And in a standard street fight FMW's Tarzan Goto will face W*ING's Mr. Pogo for a future Brass Knuckles Title Opportunity.
The real life W*ING is banking on Kodo Fuyuki's Fuyuki-gun (Hido, Jado, Gedo, & Hisakatsu Oya) to choose W*ING over FMW, and is expected to close up shop if they do not. The mystery partner element adds a lot to the up coming show as clearly someone else from W*ING seems to be headed to FMW to join Hosaka & Toi, as to who it is remains a mystery.
Awesome Gladiator Vs. Team Canada
Awesome was initially only working FMW part time for the majority of the year, but still managed to join/form Ricky Fuji's Team Canada stable along side Dr. Luther, Dr. Hannibal, & Big Titan back in January. Mostly without Awesome the stable would feud with Onita and company on just about every show until the W*ING angle kicked off. With Awesome appearing less and less for FMW and more and more for NJPW, tensions began to mount. These tensions came to a head when Awesome WALKED OUT of NJPW after FMW booker Riki Choshu spoke negatively about the promotion and showed up in FMW in late October, declaring his loyalty to the promotion. Onita in turn rewarded him with a title shot at his Brass Knuckles Championship in the main event (Onita DID work earlier in the show teaming with Gannosuke & Goto against Pogo, Matsunaga & Hosaka), and Awesome scored a rare clean pinfall victory of the FMW founder to take home the championship.
Fuji attempted to embrace the new Champion, but Awesome blew him off, declaring his loyalty to ONITA and the FANS of FMW, and that was it for him in Team Canada. Awesome has been at war with the group ever since and coming up on the 8th will team with Sambo Asako to battle Fuji, Titan & Dr. Luther in a handicapped match.
Other stories:
The FMW Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Championship was vacant once the FMW/NJPW relationship fell apart. The title had previously been held by NJPW's Gran Hamada, but hadn't been defended in quite some time. A tournament took place throughout much of November, with the finals set up for the 8th with Battle Ranger Z going head to head with his evil counter part the Dark Ranger.
The FMW women have had a challenge accepted by All Japan Women stars: Bull Nakano, Takako Inoue, Aja Kong & Kyoko Inoue. Aja Kong & Kyoko Inoue of AJW will battle WWA Women's Champion: Crusher Maedomari & her partner Shark Tsuchiya; Bull Nakano will battle Combat Toyoda; & Takako Inoue will face off against Megumi Kudo respectively.
Planning For The Future
FMW really seems to be planning for the future as young lion's Mr. Gannosuke (a favorite of Tarzan Goto), Koji Nakagawa & Katsutoshi Niiyama have had their fair share of main events as of late (typically teaming with Onita or Goto). Also Onita favorite Eiji Ezaki has been sent to CMLL for seasoning, in hopes that either he & Gannosuke will take over the top spots held by Onita/Goto in the years to come. Flying Kid Ichihara is with Eiji right now in CMLL, but honestly he isn't very good.
