Main Event Wrestling presents:
Halloween in Hugo
the Historic Goodland Academy i
Hugo, Oklahoma i
October 31, 1993
Referee: Tom Simon
It's Thursday evening in Hugo, Oklahoma at the historic Goodland Academy for Halloween in Hugo! We have a heavily Halloween themed decorated gymnasium for our show with plenty of people in costume. Pre-match session of candy for the kids handed out by several of the wrestlers and an announcement of a costume contest at intermission. Bill Ash and Lolly Dude thank everyone for coming out before being interrupted by cheesy Halloween music and sound effects that herald the coming of Damien Strange and Horace the Psychopath to the ring. Strange rambles on about this being HIS evening! We get diabolical laughter before the two leave just as quickly as they came.
The first match of the night gets underway with fans still filing in. It is a weeknight, so we gotta start on time, still a pretty good house, it being Halloween and all. Running Wolf of Tribal Warfare faces off against the War Dog A good start to things but the match goes on a little too long but it serves its purpose as fans continue to file in. Running Wolf is the face here and has the fans fully behind him. Lots of chops and Native American dancing before Wolf takes the match with a chop off of the top ropes.
This leads right into Shane Cortez taking on Horace the Psychopath w/Damien Strange Strange leads his man to the ring with more of the cheesy music and lighting effects (ie. strobe light). Horace doesn't wait as he attacks his opponent before the bell. Shane Cortez takes a beating in the early going and never gets on track. Bump monkey as Horace bounces Cortez around the ring. Lots of boobirds when Horace pulls Cortez off the mat, thus breaking up his own pin attempts. After a running corner splash, Horace takes Strange's advice and flattens Cortez with a huge splash that shakes the ring. Count to 3, 5 or 20, Shane Cortez is NOT getting up anytime soon.
We get a boot stomping on the hapless Cortez before ring vet Tom Jones plays hero of the day and chases the pair from the ring with a steel chair. Lots of threatening but no action until the start of the ...
Damien Strange's turn as he faces Tom Jones
War of words with Strange refusing to get in the ring as long as Jones is anywhere near it, holding onto the chair. Finally agreeing to get rid of it, the match gets underway. Lots of good action between the two as Strange tries to turn the match into a good old fashioned scrap while Jones looks to control things by slowing it all down as well as putting Strange on the mat. Jones does his best to tie Strange and bend his limbs in all kinds of directions. To Strange's credit, he holds on as long as possible, refusing to quiet the match. His second, Horace, also helps out when he can, drawing warnings from the referee. Jones appears to be trying to yank Strange's arms from his socket with the bell sounding as Horace ignores the referee's warning once too often. Tom Jones picks up the victory by disqualification. Maybe not the way he wanted to win but he takes it, especially after Horace drops a huge elbow on him. Jones, holding his ribs in pain, fights back a grimace and scowl while promising this is far from over.
A handicap match with the quite large Wilbur the Plowboy versus Dino Hernandez and the Oklahoma Outlaw. Just what everyone thought it might be ... a showcase for Wilbur as the big man/powerhouse in which he destroys both of his opponents who very nearly come to blows, not wanting to get back into the ring to face the big guy. Very little offense from either guy as Wilbur beats them around the ring like preverbial redheaded step children. Wilbur with the huge leg drop gets the nod as Dino Hernandez does "the duty" for his team.
Intermission time with an announcement for it being exactly 15 minutes before getting on to the Halloween costume winner being announced. Wrestlers come out to mingle and sign a few autographs and two guys dressed like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles carrying plastic orange pumpkins, dole out candy to children and adults alike.
Exactly 15 minutes and the Halloween costume contest gets underway. Adults and children are led to the ring by the masked Turtles. A little girl dressed as a cat wins on cuteness alone. $50 cash prize for a woman in a full Native American dress. She is very quickly escorted from the ring when ...
Tammy, the Head Groupie
... storms the ring. Carrying pom-poms along in her cheerleader outfit, looks angry as she calls Lolly Dude back into the ring. She's pretty angry about not being included in the costume contest. Whistles and catcalls as she twirls, to show off her goods quickly turn to jeers when she says she's 1000 times better than "Pocahantas" but what do you expect from a backwater place like Hugo, OKlahoma. She's arguing with fans when the Bon Jovi Boys hit the ring and try to calm her or at least Dean tries while Don does his best to rile the same ones Tammy points out. The guys in the Turtle outfits handing out the candy? They hand the pumpkins over to fans in the front row before getting in the ring ...
It is on like Donkey Kong with the Bon Jovi Boys w/Tammy versus the Turtles. Fast paced affair in the early going with the Turtles getting an advantage ... who knew the guys in the Turtle costumes could actually wrestle? Lots of martial arts posing and such as their opponents regroup. While Dean Bon Jovi uses his athleticism to claw his team's way back into the match, brother Don Bon Jovi takes shortcuts. A little help from Tammy seals the deal not to mention the crappy Halloween costumes making things very difficult to wrestle in. Dean argues with Don some over the tactics which leads to the Turtles making a comeback but Tammy using one of her pom-poms upside one of the Turtle's heads allows Don Bon Jovi to grab the glory with one foot on his opponent's chest for the win.
Don boots the Turtle from the ring before Dean stops him from going after the other one. Tammy difuses the situation by stepping inbetween the pair, leading them from the ring to jeers.
Our main event is Treach Phillips Jr. and Odell Buckingham going at it one more time. This time, however, no Bill Ash as referee. Ash is in the ring for the introductions and just as they have done all over Oklahoma and Texas, brings them together for a handshake.
Title's on the line and these two go to the mat wrestling. Breaks on the ropes and respect shown by both guys as the fans acknowledge their work. Back and forth with both men picking up near pinfalls. Buckingham works Treach's legs to keep the match grounded which Treach seems happy to oblige as he works the mat and Odell's arm. Lots of reversals and counters, one of which leads to referee Tom Simon being hit in the corner by accident. Down goes the referee with both wrestlers oblivious to the fact that he's gone down. Buckingham is able to get a roll up but no count as Bill Ash rushes to the ring to take up the duty. Buckingham is visibly upset over the lack of a count with the match continuing.

Also out, it is the little guy with the stepstool from the back. He slaps the mat in support Treach Phillips Jr., even getting the fans to chant his name. Sequence of exchanges with Buckingham throwing Phillips into the corner before opening with chops, the first hand strikes in the match before Treach reverses position and opens up with some of his open blistering shots. Phillips steps away from the corner and Buckingham nails him from behind near the ropes and makes the cover ...

From the outside, the little guy gets Treach's foot on the ropes just before the three count! Buckingham complains to Bill Ash who questions the man on the outside who says he's innocent ...

ODELL BUCKINGHAM GETS A FOOT ON THE ROPES ... THE LITTLE GUY SWATS IT AWAY!

Your winner of the match and still Main Event Heavyweight Champion ...
Treach Phillips Jr.
Odell Buckingham complains to Bill Ash that his foot was on the ropes which falls on deaf ears. Unlike the other matches between these two, this time around Odell Buckingham REFUSES TO SHAKE HANDS! Drawing the ire of the fans, Buckingham storms off to a round of boos. The show ends with Bill Ash and the little guy holding Treach Phillips Jr.'s in the air.

As a "Step Above the Rest", the diminutive Tommy D uses the stepstool to look wrestlers in the eye. It also comes in handy as the occassional weapon.
Unknown to most, Tommy D is the cousin of Damien Strange, a fact that we will indeed be exploring in the future.
