The AWA (American Wrestling Association) opens with a colleague of photos of former AWA Wrestling legends with Verne Gagne, The Vachons, Nick Bockwinkel, The High Flyers (Greg Gagne & Jim Brunzell), Billy Robinson, Baron Von Raschke, Larry Hennig & Harley Race, Doctor X, Dick the Bruiser & The Crusher, The Road Warriors, Curt Hennig, Madusa Miceli, Scott Hall, Wendi Richter, the Midnight Rockers and Larry Zbyszko before going into the AWA Studio on WGN where we join the announcing team of 'Mean' Gene Okerlund and Jim Ross. Gene and Jim are excited and welcome the fans back for another exciting hour of AWA Championship Wrestling on WGN.
Before the start of the match, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage is still upset about being ignored in the AWA Heavyweight Championship Match. Gene tries to calm Savage down but 'Macho Man' issues a challenge to 'Mr. Perfect' Curt Hennig and Bob Backlund to come out and face him in a singles match on today's show.
This commotion brings out President Nick Bockwinkel who tells Randy that he has send someone back to the dressing room to inform both wrestlers about the challenge. Hennig comes out first and tells Savage the most important thing for him is to prepare for the title match tonight. But, Curt says when he wins the belt tonight, he might step in the ring with him. However Backlund comes out and said he understands 'Macho Man's' aggravation and says he will be happy to accept the match. Savage smiles and tells Backlund he will see him at the end of today's show.
Jim introduces a video next from Japan sent my manager Mr. Fuji. Mr. Fuji states that his stable of Akira Maeda, Kenta Kobashi and Mistuhara Misawa will he coming to the AWA in the next few weeks. While Fuji is talking, we see all 3 men working out in the background. The Asian manager says Fuji Corp. is going to dominate the AWA and win the major titles then give a hearty, evil laugh.
Back at the desk, Gene and Jim run down the big card for tonight in the UIC Pavillion in Chicago tonight.
