Live from The Arena

Orlando, Florida
From ringside ...
Tony Schiavone: From The City Beautiful in the Sunshine State, this is WCW Monday Nitro live on TNT! Coming to you tonight for 2 big hours from The Arena in Orlando, Florida, with only 6 days left until the biggest event of the year, Halloween Havoc, comes your way on PPV! Hello wrestling fans, I'm Tony Schiavone joined by the 1 and only Living Legend Larry Zbyszko, bringing you all the action tonight for hour #1, and what a night we have in store for you here. Later on tonight, gigantic main event with Sting and Cactus Jack teaming up to take on Big Van Vader and Sid Vicious, a preview of those 2 matches and what to expect in 6 nights. Not only that, but also tonight, Rowdy Roddy Piper is here, he is live, and tonight he welcomes his opponent this Sunday into Piper's Pit, speaking of course about Ravishing Rick Rude.
Larry Zbyszko: And in the game of human chess, this is the end game tonight. The pawns have been sacrificed, the rooks and the knights are gone. Even the queens are off the board. All that remains is 2 kings, piece vs piece. Mano a mano. While on the surface, this might seem to have nothing to do with the match Sunday, it has everything to do with it. Wrestling is as much a mental game as it is physical if you know how to use it to your advantage, and both Roddy Piper and Rick Rude are among the best at it. Sunday they walk the walk, tonight they talk the talk, and in so much as what they say, watch for what they don't say. He who speaks loudest is not always the best heard.
Tony Schiavone: And of course, an update on last week's situation here with The Nature Boy Ric Flair and The Lone Wolf Barry Windham. Last week, Windham producing a restraining order in Flair's own home town of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Flair promptly broke it, nearly getting arrested and the match for Sunday called off. Both are here tonight, the restraining order is still in effect, and if Flair breaks it again tonight, he may not be so lucky.
Larry Zbyszko: The key word in all of that is restraint. Ric Flair has never been known as a man to hold back and rather chooses to live a life of excesses. If he wants to get his hands on Barry Windham though this Sunday on PPV, he will have to hold back. Windham may push him past the breaking point though because you can be sure that whatever he did last week, he will be upping his game this week. Whether he wants out of that match or he is looking for that mental edge for Sunday, Flair had best learn to watch his back.
Tony Schiavone: That all to come later tonight. Here though in hour #1, the return of The Z Man and Johnny Gunn to Nitro as they take on The Hollywood Blonds. More tag team action with 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell taking up a challenge from Brad Armstrong to take on him and a family member, not sure yet who that is. Also, The Studd is here to take on Ron Simmons, both of them having important matches in 6 days time. Right now though ...
... we are being joined by the WCW commissioner J.J. Dillon and we understand you have something very important to lead us off here tonight.
J.J. Dillon: Thank you Tony, and yes I do. It is with great regret that I ask Brother Brutus out here.
Larry Zbyszko: Brother Brutus?
J.J. Dillon: That's the name he has requested to be addressed by.
Fans boo as out comes Brother Brutus, kept off the show the last 2 weeks after getting his guaranteed contract by promising we would hear from Hulk Hogan, only to give us the Mr. Nanny trailer instead.
J.J. Dillon: Now the regret is that this man is even out here. I have no interest in seeing you out here, nor do any of these fans, but you told me you had something important regarding Hulk Hogan, and you would only reveal it out here. You're here, so what is it?
Brother Brutus: It's great to be back on Nitro baby! Yeah! I know all these fans are glad that I'm back, and not only that, but you can expect your performance review to be through the roof now that the hottest star in wrestling is back in the WCW.
J.J. Dillon: Haha. That's actually 1 of the more funny things you've said out here. Let me make something clear, you're not a star. You're not even deserving of my time. You know why you've been held back the last 2 weeks? Because nobody wants to see you. The only reason you're out here, the only reason you've ever been out here is because of who you know. That is a fact. So don't go calling yourself the hottest star in wrestling, and while you might be back, I can only imagine whatever lie you're about to spew out will only send you back into the watchful eye of security in about 90 seconds.
Brother Brutus: Hold on, hold on. Who said that I was talking about me? I mean it's great that you think of me when I say that, but no, no J.J., it's not me. The hottest star in wrestling back in WCW, the man I'm talking about, is none other than ... HULK HOGAN!
The fans in Orlando cheer that announcement.
J.J. Dillon: Wait, people, please. Don't give your hopes up. This man has lied, he has done whatever he can to get himself over out here. I see no reason to believe anything you say.
Brother Brutus: Believe it or not brother, but the Hulkster's got words for you and he's gonna have them this Sunday live at Halloween Havoc. He's been biding his time, waiting it out, but now's the time to clear the air. He's gonna tell you and all these fans, why he came out onto Nitro back on Labor Day, and he's gonna tell you exactly what he wants.
J.J. Dillon: You know, today is what, October 19? Labor Day Mr. Brutus, it was a long time ago. Since then, all we've had is you spinning a web of lies. I see no reason to believe this is anything but another 1 of your tall tales so I want to tell all the fans watching right now. Do not order Halloween Havoc with the expectation of Hulk Hogan, do not listen to this man, and I just hope that soon enough, our legal team gets your contract over turned and you're back on the streets.
Larry Zbyszko: Or worse, back to the Titanic.
Brother Brutus: Well what would you say then if right here tonight, I give you proof? Definitive proof that Hulk Hogan will be in New Orleans on Sunday for Halloween Havoc, proof for you and for all these fans.
J.J. Dillon: Then I would say you have 2 hours. If Hulk Hogan wants an audience with me on Sunday, then I want to know for sure he'll be there. I've given that man several opportunities now without any answer. Why this Sunday? I don't know. And for that reason, you'd better have damn good proof tonight.
Brother Brutus: I guarantee, just like my contract haha, that tonight, you and all these fans here will know that beyond a shadow of any doubt, Hulk Hogan will be live at Halloween Havoc. Trust me.
J.J. Dillon: Trust, you? Not on my life pal. You've got 2 hours. Use it wisely.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, apparently that to come before the end of the night at some point here on Nitro. Hulk Hogan to be at Halloween Havoc? We'll see about that. Right now though, up to the ring to David Penzer for our opening match tonight on WCW Monday Nitro, live on TNT.

The always dangerous Yoshi Kwan is out, accompanied by manager Harley Race. Not much to be said here, other than Kwan being undefeated thus far, and his Sleeping Dragon nerve hold presently being among the more feared moves by opponents in the locker room. It ended Van Hammer's stay in WCW, put both The Z Man and Johnny Gunn on the shelf for a significant period, and tonight it could be the end for half of The Cole Twins as Kent Cole looks to test out the man from Hong Kong dubbed by Larry Zbyszko, "the Oriental Assassin". Twin magic has helped The Cole Twins score some big wins here in WCW since Fall Brawl, but tonight there will be none of that because Kent is out solo. While he is abe to get in some offense, Kent succumbs to Kwan, whose offense proves too much for him to overcome. Following a good 5 minutes of action, Kwan catches Cole with a sidekick, and then locks it in. The Sleeping Dragon. It takes only seconds for the referee to call for the bell. Yoshi Kwan picks up another win and Race could not be happier. Well maybe he could because after Kwan releases it, he tells him to apply it again! Just then though, Keith Cole is out and while Kwan takes a fighting stance, Race has him stand down. Keith checks on Kent as Kwan leaves, another victory, still undefeated in WCW. The commentators make mention that Keith himself will be in action later on tonight and the state of his brother could weigh on his mind to effect his own performance tonight.
-- First commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Welcome back wrestling fans, this is WCW Monday Nitro, live on TNT. We just saw before the break, another successful outing from Yoshi Kwan-
Larry Zbyszko: The Oriental Assassin.
Tony Schiavone: Yes, and he remains undefeated here in WCW. Also before the break, huge news. Well maybe. Brother Brutus out here, he has promised us proof that Hulk Hogan will be at Halloween Havoc this Sunday to speak with J.J. Dillon, that to come some time tonight. Although that man has been known to bend the truth.
Larry Zbyszko: The way you know he's lying is that his lips are moving. Never trust a man with no name.
Tony Schiavone: And I don't think anybody is giving him the benefit of the doubt this time. Right now though ...
Johnny B. Badd is out, first appearance on WCW programming in 2 weeks.
Tony Schiavone: This man right here, Johnny B. Badd, you are back and you are ready to go.
Johnny B. Badd: Yeah, I'm ready to go. I was ready to go this Sunday at Halloween Havoc against Ravishing Rick Rude for that World title, but unfortunately that's not in the cards for Johnny B. Badd. Instead, Rowdy Roddy Piper makes his triumphant return and where am I? What am I doing this Sunday? Instead of fighting the best, I have to take a match 2 weeks ago with Rick Rude, injured from Big Van Vader, and I'm lucky I'm even walking right now if we're being honest about it. And who do I have to thank for all that? Not Piper because he's not even here 99% of the time, no. The man I have to thank is the guy who can't help but stick his nose where it doesn't belong, The Natural Dustin Rhodes. He has to come out there, nobody asked him too. And ...
Right on cue, Dustin Rhodes is out, no doubt having heard his name come up.
Tony Schiavone: Wait a minute here. Dustin Rhodes.
Johnny B. Badd: Speak of the devil.
Dustin Rhodes: You know, you're not the only 1 in that locker room that wanted a piece of Rick Rude at Halloween Havoc on Sunday. I fought tooth and nail at Fall Brawl, only to come up short thanks to some woman spraying me in the eyes with perfume, and I gotta tell everybody, even that doesn't mask her stench! I think you've been dealt a bad hand just like me, and maybe even worst, but you gotta step back and look at things. Me and you, we'll have our day. This Sunday though, it's his time. We've had our chance, this is about Rowdy Roddy Piper getting his, and Rick Rude getting his if you know what I mean.
Johnny B. Badd: Yeah I know what I mean. And believe me, I've stepped back and I see things exactly for what they are out here. The difference between us though is you got your chance and you failed. You lost to Rick Rude. I got my chance, and I was short changed. Instead of a month to prepare like you, I had Rude taking advantage of me. But I still fought. Now it'd seem to me that after this Sunday, there's gonna have to be a new #1 contender to that World title. You get your rematch, have to wait 50 days. I get nothing though. I get absolutely nothing, but I was this close Dustin. I was this close. So what I say is that this Sunday, we have ourselves a match at the PPV. You lose, I get that shot because I deserve it.
Dustin Rhodes: Yeah, ok. That sounds fair. I just want to be sure you want this though? You're ready?
Johnny B. Badd: Don't worry about me. Just worry about yourself and I'll see you this Sunday in the ring.
Dustin Rhodes: You know I'd rather we work together in this, but somebody's gotta go after Rude and this seems like a pretty fair way to decide who to me. I accept.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, another match added to the Halloween Havoc in 6 days time, Dustin Rhodes and Johnny B. Badd. Didn't expect to see this, but should be an excellent athletic contest. Speaking of which, we're ready for our next match so let's send it up to David Penzer for the next match.

2 tag teams that probably wish they could both erase the last 5 weeks here in WCW. For The Z Man and Johnny Gunn, pretty easy because that is basically what Yoshi Kwan did by putting both men on the shelf for several weeks. They returned this past weekend on Saturday Night with a win and are looking to continue that here on Nitro. For The Hollywood Blonds, a win is becoming only a faded memory having not had even 1 in ages now. The losing streak they are facing is now noticeably impacting their team work and last week saw tempers come to a boil after a loss to The Nasty Boys. The commentators make mention of the tag team battle royal at Halloween Havoc, a match that both of these teams will be taking part in. The action tonight begins with The Blonds showing problems early on to the point that they need to call a "time out" so they can regroup, although their idea of regrouping seems to be arguing and passing blame onto each other. Back inside the action continues with them still on the losing end until they manage to turn the tide when Brian Pillman catches Gunn with a kick to the back as he hits the ropes. The Blonds start to go to work, methodically making quick tags and performing double teams, looking like the team that held the WCW Tag Team title for 5 months rather than the team they have been of late. An error though leads to Gunn ducking as Austin charges Pillman and nails his own partner. Gunn dropkicks Austin and gets the hot tag to Zenk. He comes in and before long all 4 are going at it. Zenk and Austin are legal and the culmination sees Austin small package him for a visual 3 only the referee is busy getting Pillman back to the apron. As this goes on, Gunn comes in and rolls them over. The referee turns and counts with Pillman struggling to get in to break it up, but he does not make it. Big win on Nitro for Zenk and Gunn, on a roll with their return, and what has to be considered a huge loss for The Hollywood Blonds. Austin can not believe the 3 and questions the referee before changing his focus to Pillman. The 2 begin arguing and last week Pillman left, this time it is Austin getting fed up and walking out on Pillman. Clearly there are problems in Hollywood as the losses are getting to them. A chance for redemption though as a win in the battle royal gets them the #1 contender spot, but can they even co-exist at this point?
-- Second commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Welcome back to WCW Monday Nitro. Before the break we saw the trouble continue for The Hollywood Blonds. Frustration over recent losses, or could this be the end for them?
Larry Zbyszko: I don't know if this is something that they can overcome. Any time you have 2 egos like that trying work together, it only lasts so long before trouble starts brewing. We see it with Big Van Vader and Sid Vicious over the WCW Heavyweight title, and here we see it over a new found affinity for failure. Neither Steve Austin nor Brian Pillman are natural born losers and if this keeps up, something will give. It already has in some ways, but this Sunday in that battle royal, they have a chance to right that wrong and get the ship back on course. If they can win.
Tony Schiavone: And that's a big if given the competition they face. You have The Road Warriors, Harlem Heat, The Nasty Boys, 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell, and the list ... what? Ok, hold on. I'm getting something through my headset. Something has just happened backstage.
Backstage Missy Hyatt is there with officials scrambling in the background.
Missy Hyatt: Thanks Tony. From what I've been able to gather, somebody back here has attacked Thunderbolt Patterson. We don't know who yet or even to what extent, but something happened. Somebody is responsible. I'll let you know if we hear more, but right now that's all I've managed to dig up.
Back to ringside.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, and there you see it. Interesting development there with Thunderbolt Patterson of all people, apparently the victim of an attack of some sort.
Larry Zbyszko: And you can be sure that wasn't by accident. Thunderbolt Patterson trained Ice Train and he has a match with Ron Simmons Sunday. Not to point any fingers out here, but-
Tony Schiavone: I think we're all thinking the same thing.

More tag team action comes next. 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell are in the tag team battle royal this Sunday at Halloween Havoc and looking to get the #1 contender spot amongst several top tag teams. Their opponents tonight come in the form of Brad Armstrong, having issued an open challenge this past weekend on WCW Saturday Night as he brings in "family" for the Armstrongs to start their dominance of WCW. This also comes a week after Toni Adams turned on her estranged husband Chris Adams to help Armstrong win. No partner is at his side as he comes out, leading the commentators to wonder if Toni Adams is his partner? Larry Zbyszko says that if last week is any indication, she could probably take some of the men backstage with her scorned attitude. Armstrong takes a mic.
Brad Armstrong: Is this thing on? Yeah. Before we get this started, I just wanted to explain what happened out here last week. See, I'm a wrestler. I'm a wrestler, wrestling here in WCW. Chris Adams, I beat him once, but that wasn't good enough. He wanted more and so last week I gave him more. Face it Adams, you're not in my league. The first time I beat you was a warning to stay clear. That superkick 2 weeks ago though, you made this personal. So I just fired back. You make a fool out of me, I make a fool out of you. This isn't your wife Chris Adams. She's her own woman, and she can make choices. It's a woman's right to choose, and she's chosen Brad Armstrong. Now as for tonight and this match, I said I was going to bring in family, but clearly you people jumped the gun. You made assumptions about my family, but let's face it, they all suck! I'm a winner, my brothers are losers. My family in wrestling isn't blood, it's who I can rely on. Who I can depend on. So with that, I give you, the RETURN of ...
the 1 ...
the only ...
... ARACHNAMAN!
And with that, the ridiculous comic book copyright infringing character heads out, maybe any former legal matters that caused WCW to shut the character down being overlooked thanks to Marvel getting a nice kickback now from owning the Hulk Hogan name that has been plastered all over WCW programming the last 2 months. Hailing from "web city" and pretending to shoot out spider webs, Arachnaman enters the ring to little reaction. Scorpio and Bagwell certainly do not seem scared of this development, although just who it is under the mask may be of concern to them because even "smart" fans might be confused by this 1, although for that same reason they would be, they probably aren't. Tony Schiavone wonders who it is as Larry Zbyszko throws out some possibilities - Tim Horner, or maybe even Freebird Michael Hayes or Jimmy Garvin. Armstrong wants to start the match and sends Arachnaman out to the apron so he can get things going, taking turns first in controlling the match against Bagwell before Scorpio comes in. Armstrong is able to control both and is not the least bit humble about it. That same arrogance comes back to bite him though as Scorpio rallies and sends him out to the floor after a forward spinning kick to the face. Armstrong forces a tag onto the masked wrestler, who comes in and shoots the webs, pulling them out like his name is Phantasio. After winning a lock up and getting a side headlock, Bagwell sends him off into the ropes. Arachnaman leap frogs and does a somersault roll out of that to the corner to tag in Armstrong. Very little offense and the captain of the team is upset by this. He steps in and questions what the hell Arachnaman is doing. The masked man plays dumb as Armstrong steps away to show him how it is down. He turns back to the corner and gets surprised by a stiff superkick to the face. The masked man unmasks and ...
... probably 1 of the least surprising developments unless you are a child under the age of 10, it is CHRIS ADAMS! The commentators sell it like the biggest surprise Tony Schiavone has ever had in his life, while Adams quickly exits and tells off Toni, who is in horror by what happened. Armstrong meanwhile gets dragged over as Bagwell tags Scorpio. He heads up to the top rope, 450 Splash is all she wrote. A 3 count follows and Scorpio and Bagwell grab a not so impressive win, but it is still a win. The bigger story here would be Chris Adams getting his revenge again on Brad Armstrong. Cheating to win twice and stealing a man's estranged wife will not be had by a mere superkick and the commentators wonder when this feud will end. What would it take for Chris Adams to get adequate revenge at this point?
-- Third commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Welcome back. Before the break, you saw it Legend. Chris Adams surprising Brad Armstrong and all of WCW for that matters, donning the mask as Arachnaman, getting some revenge.
Larry Zbyszko: Some being the important part of that sentence, because if it was as easy as superkicking a guy wearing a mask as revenge for him taking away your estranged wife, you'd be seeing it happening every week out here. You know for a guy that professes a no drama policy like Brad Armstrong does, he's really delivering it to us like a script straight out of General Hospital or the Days of Our Lives. You have to wonder too, if Chris Adams was not the original partner, who was? And what happened to him?
Tony Schiavone: Well we do know that Arachnaman competed in WCW back in 1991. Maybe it was Chris Adams all along and Brad Armstrong just found it out the hard way by pure coincidence.
Larry Zbyszko: Maybe Brad Armstrong himself will come back under a mask as The Avenger next week.
Tony Schiavone: Could be. Right now though ...
Scotty Flamingo: Yeah, make way, make way. Let's talk about something important out here. Let's talk the greatest tag team in the history of WCW, let's talk Beautiful Bobby Eaton and ... ummmm ... well, we'll work on something. And Chris Benoit.
Chris Benoit: The best damn technical wrestler in the world today.
Scotty Flamingo: We'll have to think about that 1. Point is gentlemen, what we have here is the premiere tag team in WCW today. A team like none other. A team that this Sunday at Halloween Havoc is going to prove why they are the best against a team that in my opinion, doesn't even deserve the chance to fight for the titles in the first place. Arn Anderson and Shane Douglas. Who have these 2 men beat so far?
Larry Zbyszko: Your 2 men for starters last week.
Scotty Flamingo: Larry, if I want your opinion, it'll be on how to beat Bobby Fischer in the human game of chess. Nobody wants your opinion on wrestling though because you don't do it any more because you can't. This right here is today. These 2 are the here and now of professional wrestling. And you know, a little birdy told me something about a battle royal at the PPV too. What kind of political maneuvering is this by J.J. Dillon that any 1 of 8 tag teams can face us for the titles after we win? Literally a team could go from the outhouse to the penthouse overnight. A rags to riches story. I don't care though if it's The Road Warriors, The Nasty Boys, Scorpio and Bagwell, hell even The Hollywood Blonds or Harlem Heat.
Bobby Eaton: We'll beat em all haha.
Scotty Flamingo: Exactly. And don't slouch Tony Schiavone, it's bad for your posture haha.
Tony Schiavone: Thanks for the advice. Right now let's send it up to David Penzer with our Nitro main event for hour #1.

Hard hitting match that could have a big impact on the rankings here in WCW come next Monday. The Studd has been a perennial contender here in WCW and some would say that the split from Diamond Dallas Page just before Fall Brawl may have been the best thing for his career long term. Ron Simmons meanwhile has a chance to become the U.S. champion this Sunday when he meets Ice Train at Halloween Havoc. A win tonight for The Studd could certainly put him in line for a shot should Simmons come out with the title in 6 days time. As Simmons comes out, the commentators mention the mysterious attack on Thunderbolt Patterson earlier tonight, and logic would indicate Simmons may be the man behind it. The Studd's entrance and the match after a quick break.
-- Fourth commercial break --
WCW Saturday Night Preview for October 26
- Diamond Dallas Page is in action
- Johnny B. Badd is in action
- 8 man tag team with The Road Warriors and The Nasty Boys vs Harlem Heat and The Hollywood Blonds
- All that and more, this Saturday at 6:05 eastern on TBS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Back from break and The Studd is entering the ring. Ready to go, both men look determined when the bell rings. Lock ups leading to tests of strength style showdowns follow. Shoulder blocks that have both men standing their ground and taking a run at the other. Studd finally gets a side headlock, but Simmons shoots him off to the ropes. Studd ducks and Simmons goes over, coming up to catch him with a hiptoss. Simmons gets up and takes a bodyslam before rolling to the outside with an audible "damn!" being heard at what just happened, being upstaged. Simmons heads back in and the action continues with Studd teeing off with some rights before a spinning discuss punch floors his opponent. Simmons gets up and gets sent to the ropes, but he reverses it and instead catches Studd with a knee to the gut. With Studd down, Simmons starts kicking away at him. Studd gets to his knees, but forearm shots follow. Studd gets up and Simmons delivers an impressive delayed vertical suplex, but as Larry Zbyszko notes, doing that to Ice Train on Sunday is something else all together. Simmons covers and gets a 2 before going to a headlock on the mat. Meanwhile a commotion develops ...
In the aisle, WCW security and Doug Dellinger are restraining a noticeably upset Ice Train. He is trying to get to the ring, but would have to go through several members of security in front of him to get there. The commentators wonder what this is about and Train can be overheard saying "this is about Thunderbolt!". Tony Schiavone asks if maybe Ice Train found out who attacked Thunderbolt in the back, with Zbyszko saying that this would seem to indicate it was Simmons! The action in the ring comes to a stand still as Train pushes his way closer, finally shoving a security guard out of the way and getting into the ring. Simmons seems confused by this as Studd stands down, knowing his role is not to get in the middle of this. Train starts trading shots with Simmons as the referee calls for the bell. Studd tries to get in there, only to get shoved away by Train. That momentary distraction gives Simmons to get to the floor and ask what the hell this is all about? The referee comes out and raises his arm for the DQ win, but Simmons is pissed off by that and did not want the win that way. He seems more interested in finding out what this is about. Train yells to him from the ring that "Sunday, this is personal now!" Studd tries to calm down Train, but he is upset. Simmons has no idea and the commentators can only surmise that this must mean Simmons did attack Thunderbolt Patterson backstage. A break to clear the air out here before starting hour #2.
-- Fifth commercial break --
