From ringside ...
Tony Schiavone: WCW Monday Nitro is on the air! From The Scope in Norfolk, Virginia, the Independent City, what a night we have in store for you tonight here live on TNT. I'm Tony Schiavone and with me from ringside is The Living Legend Larry Zbyszko. Tonight, the fall out from last week's hoax perpetrated by Hulk Hogan's associate, Brother Brutus himself. Last week, he made demands and got them in the form of a guaranteed contract to give us Hogan, but the Hogan we got was not what we expected.
Larry Zbyszko: I don't think it should be all that surprising personally. That man is a liar, a cheat, a slime ball. Need I go on? The point is he can't be trusted and that's exactly what J.J. Dillon did, Sting went along with it, and I think pretty much everybody in the WCW went along with it, wanting to believe him for no other reason that he was offering up Hulk Hogan. Instead, we heard from Hogan alright, but it was in the form of the trailer for his movie Mr. Nanny. I know what I'd do if I got played like that, so we'll see how it gets followed up on tonight.
Tony Schiavone: Indeed. Lawyers have been hard at work on both sides with that situation and we will hear from J.J. Dillon later on tonight on Nitro. Also, main event later tonight. Sting, the man who challenges Big Van Vader at Halloween Havoc, he takes on Vader's associate Sid Vicious. That should be something. Here in hour #1 though, Shane Douglas will try to redeem himself from last week against The Lone Wolf Barry Windham.
Larry Zbyszko: A mistake that may prove costly, but who made the mistake last week? Shane Douglas for not coming out to help Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in a move that may have cost them the WCW Tag Team Title, or Barry Windham himself for interfering in that match? We found out over the weekend that it's been signed for Halloween Havoc, Ric Flair vs Barry Windham 1 on 1 finally. Shane Douglas is in the crossfire and we may find out tonight if he's in fact Horsemen material.
Tony Schiavone: And speaking of which, the new Tag Team champions Bobby Eaton and Chris Benoit with their new manager Scotty Flamingo will be here. They have to contend with The Cole Twins in non title action. The same team that just a few weeks ago fooled Flamingo in what could prove to be his final wrestling match ever if we're to believe his retirement.
Larry Zbyszko: I'll believe him the day that pigs fly.
Rick Rude enters the view.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, and we are being joined right now by Ravishing Rick Rude, and-
Rick Rude: The World champion, Ravishing Rick Rude. Say it Schiavone!
Larry Zbyszko: Don't say anything. You might bully some around here, but 1 thing I'll never do is call you a World champion.
Tony Schiavone: He is however the World champion as recognized by WCW International. Only 3 weeks from now at Halloween Havoc, a match with Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Rick Rude: First off, let me address you Zbyszko. We've had our go 'rounds, but don't think I won't hesitate to give you 1 more Rude Awakening if you ask for it like you just did. In fact, you deserve it! As for Piper, where is he huh? He shows up 2 weeks ago, comes out and interrupts me, and what? That's it. He runs and hides until Halloween Havoc while I'm out here week after week proving to everybody why I'm the best wrestler in the world today. In fact, I'm in a fighting mood here. I want a match tonight so I can give Piper a preview of what's in store for him. And as long as I'm out here with somebody running their mouth like Piper does, Zbyszko, be a man and accept so I can shut it!
Larry Zbyszko: You and I both now that I would have no reason to have my gear here tonight, but I'd gladly get in there anyway. I can wrestle like this.
Rick Rude: Correction, you can't wrestle with or without gear. All you can do is lose and do a half hearted attempt at wrestling. What I do is wrestling Zbyszko. What you do is talking. If you could wrestle, you'd still be in that ring. Instead you're out here because you can't cut it anymore. You can't get the job done. Face it Zbyszko, you're yesterday's news.
Larry Zbyszko: And I'll be tonight's news too. You've made this mistake once before, don't make it again.
Johnny B. Badd interrupts all of this.
Johnny B. Badd: Hold on here, hold on. I can't help but hear what's going on out here and Larry, I know you'd like to get this thing going. You'd love to get a piece of Rude. But so would I! I'm in my gear, I'm ready to go. Rude, let me get in that ring with you, and I'll show you why I'm the baddest man of WCW!
Tony Schiavone: Hold on though. Are you sure you're in any condition to perform after your run in this past weekend with The Masters of The Power Bomb?
Johnny B. Badd: I'm not only ready, but I'll show everybody here tonight in Norfolk that Rick Rude is nothing but a chump! You talk a big game, but can you back it up?
Rick Rude: Trust me Badd, I can back it up. You want it? You've got it. I'll gladly beat you in the ring and maybe finally ride the WCW of the so called baddest man, and expose you as just a bad wrestler. Just like your friend Piper, you'll fall like everybody else has before me.
Tony Schiavone: What about it Legend?
Larry Zbyszko: Hey, if he wants it, I'll gladly step aside. Because if I can't do it tonight, I'll take the next best thing. I hope Rude gets knocked out, just like I'm sure everybody in the back wants to see and all these fans here tonight.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, looks like we have a match for tonight. Johnny B. Badd and Rick Rude, that'll be coming up later. Right now though, let's send it up to David Penzer for our opening match.

Rematch time kicks off the first match here tonight. Last week, it was scheduled to be The Studd against Diamond Dallas Page when DDP claimed an injury and stepped out of the match. In stepped the ever dangerous Yoshi Kwan. The undefeated Yoshi Kwan. While the injury prevented DDP from wrestling, it didn't stop him from playing a part in the finish. Wanting to see The Studd sent the same way as past victims Van Hammer, Johnny Gunn, and The Z Man, DDP wanted The Sleeping Dragon nerve hold left off, but Kwan and manager Harley Race had no desire to do any more of DDP's dirty work. Tonight The Studd is wrestling without the surprise element working against him. It shows early on in the match as he controls Kwan like no other so far. Even sending him on a retreat to the floor. Kwan gets back in and The Studd continues his dominance of the match until Kwan ducks a clothesline and Studd turns into a stiff side kick. Kwan begins wearing down The Studd with Race yelling on from ringside. Larry Zbyszko thinks Race should shutup and let them wrestle, which he overhears and comes to the commentary to tell him that if he is not carefull, he will be Kwan's next victim. Zbyszko invites him to try as Race is already walking away and focusing back on the match. Studd meanwhile begins to make a comeback. Several hard rights down Kwan followed by an offense where nothing can stop The Studd. A fallaway slam follows with a 2 count before Kwan kicks out. Studd readies for The Diamond Death Drop when Race climbs up to the apron. The referee goes over to get him down as does Studd, telling the referee to take care of this. When he turns back to the action though ...
DIAMOND CUTTER! DDP sneaks into the ring and hits his signature move before heading outside to the floor. Race gets down and the referee goes back to the action with Kwan getting up. He brings Studd up and locks in his nerve hold, The Sleeping Dragon. Studd goes out and Kwan will get the victory for a second week in a row, and for a second week in a row, DDP proves instrumental in the finish. This time directly interfering. The commentators make note that whatever was wrong with his arm is clearly a past issue because he certainly seems fine. Zbyszko thinks there was never anything wrong with his arm and it is just typical of a coward like Page.
-- First commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Alright, we are back here on Nitro. Right before the break, Yoshi Kwan picking up a big win over The Studd. Have to wonder, can anybody stop this man? With Harley Race in his corner, he could be grooming Kwan to be the future of WCW should Big Van Vader ever lose the WCW title.
Larry Zbyszko: I think it's only a matter of time before Yoshi Kwan meets his match, and somebody that already has met his match is Diamond Dallas Page. Once The Studd gets him 1 on 1 inside that ring.
Tony Schiavone: And that could happen in the weeks to come. I'm sure that J.J. Dillon and his office have been keeping track of the going's on between them. Coming up in just a moment, it'll be The Cole Twins against the new WCW Tag Team champions, but right now ...
... joining us is the WCW United States champion, the Ice Train! A fan favorite here in Norfolk, and we understand you have a challenge.
Larry Zbyszko: A little unusual for the champion to be the 1 making the challenges.
Ice Train: It is a bit unusual, but I have a good reason, and I want to tell you right now about it. I want to get real here. You know, growing up, wrestling as I saw it, I had my heroes. I was a young African American kid, and we didn't have much money, and without much money, I didn't get the best opportunities given to me. I had to fight for them, my family had to fight for them, but we did what we could and I think I turned out alright. I'm standing here as the WCW U.S. champion, winner of the WCW Strongest Arm. And this is just the start of things. But I wanna talk about the men that gave me inspiration. Watching men like Bobo Brazil, Ernie Ladd, the man that trained me after the Underdog Challenge in Thunderbolt Patterson, but it was really The Junkyard Dog that made me think that's what I wanna do. I wanna be a wrestler. But these guys all have something in common. They never reached the top. Nobody could break through, nobody until Ron Simmons last year. See, I'd been wrestling, going nowhere, but it was that win by Ron Simmons last summer that really gave me the push to bring it to the next level. I got my chance with WCW, I ran with it, and I was even fortunate enough to get to face off with Ron in the semi final of the Strongest Arm tournament. So what I want is for a match at Halloween Havoc, me and Ron Simmons for the U.S. title.
Larry Zbyszko: Hard to think anybody'd say no to a title shot.
Tony Schiavone: He is here tonight and will be joining us later.
Ice Train: And I hope he accepts my offer because there is nothing I would love more than getting the honor of wrestling Ron Simmons. He gave me the belief that it wasn't impossible for me to reach the top here in WCW, and now I'm on my way.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, and again, we'll hear from Ron Simmons later tonight to hopefully address the challenge. Right now though, let's get back to the ring for more action as we send it up to David Penzer with the introductions.

Last week the team of Bobby Eaton and Chris Benoit pulled out a big upset with a win against Ric Flair and Arn Anderson for the WCW Tag Team title. Not without controversy as the appearance of Scotty Flamingo allowed for the interference of Barry Windham, later learning that Flamingo is the champions' new manager this past weekend on WCW Saturday Night. Having claimed retirement from the ring, Flamingo enters the managerial world after an upset loss to Keith Cole 3 weeks ago on Nitro when he switched places with brother Kent. The upsets continued for The Coles when last week they defeated The Hollywood Blonds. Flamingo is hoping for some revenge by putting a stop to their recent success tonight. The match starts out with The Coles getting the upper hand early on, leading to Flamingo calling a huddle with his men to try and formulate a game plan. No results as The Coles continue, but Flamingo pulls down the top rope as Keith Cole goes in and tumbles out to the floor. The champions start to work him over, keeping him from getting a tag to his brother. It eventually happens though and Kent gets the hot tag, going wild on the champions with Benoit as the legal man. A 2 count hits after a dropkick, broken up by Eaton. All 4 end up in the ring going at it when Flamingo passes off a title belt to Benoit while the referee is busy with Eaton and Keith Cole. Benoit goes to hit Kent, but he kicks the belt into Benoit's face! The referee turns and makes the count, seemingly getting a 3 before Flamingo points out Benoit's foot is on the bottom rope, easily noticed by him because he was the 1 that put it there. Keith Cole exits the ring and goes after the manager, a big mistake as he loses focus of the match. After chasing Flamingo, he gives up, choosing to just warn him not to interfere again. As he is starts to climb back in, Kent is sending Benoit into the ropes but gets reversed, colliding with his own partner. Keith falls to the floor while Benoit tags Eaton and headbutts Kent. He then picks him up into position, while Eaton comes off the top rope with a knee drop and covers to grab the 3 count and take the win. A successful first outing as champions for Eaton and Benoit, albeit with a close call. The commentators mention a 3 way tag team match later tonight that could give the commissioner's office something to think about for who gets the next title shot, although Flair and Anderson themselves would have to be in line for a rematch as well.
-- Second commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Welcome back to WCW Monday Nitro, live on TNT. 2 hours coming your way, and as we approach our main event in hour #1, Shane Douglas against Barry Windham, should be a big 1, we also await a response from Ron Simmons. Ice Train challenging him before the break to a match for Halloween Havoc.
Larry Zbyszko: A mistake in my opinion. If you're the U.S. champion, the last thing you should do is bring the challengers to you. Let them sort that out amongst themselves. Ron Simmons isn't just some guy. He's a former WCW Heavyweight champion and amongst the best wrestlers in that dressing room. If you don't have to wrestle him, you shouldn't, especially voluntarily offering to put the title up for grabs.
Tony Schiavone: But that's Ice Train Legend. He isn't 1 to back down, and-
Larry Zbyszko: Well he might be 1 to lose his title then. Rookie mistake if you ask me.
Tony Schiavone: We'll see because Ron Simmons still has yet to accept, and speaking of champions ...
Larry Zbyszko: Oh no. Not these guys again.
Jean Paul Levesque: Yes, speaking of champions, something that could not be associated with yourself Monsieur Zbyszko going back many years now, what we have here is the WCW TV champion, Lord Steven Regal.
Steven Regal: And thank you for that introduction, because I sure wasn't going to get an adequate 1 from either of these 2, especially you Zbyszko. I was in the back and I couldn't help but overhear this Ice Train character, challenging wrestlers to defend his title against? What is going on with this? What kind of stupid person does that? Last week we saw Ric Flair and Arn Anderson fail miserably and lose their titles. It's quite a shame that I have to share the word champion with some of these fellows that clearly have no idea what the word means.
Larry Zbyszko: Who's your next challenger Mr. Big Shot?
Steven Regal: If there was anybody in the WCW deserving of a shot at me, I'd gladly grant them the match once the commissioner's office approves it. However, that's not the case. Instead what we have is a couple of fools like William Dundee and Ken Shamrock that both get sent on their way, and nobody to fill that spot. Unlike Ric Flair and Arn Anderson, I'm able to succeed and keep my belt.
Larry Zbyszko: Maybe if you actually faced somebody like Arn Anderson or Ric Flair, put your money where your mouth is. Instead you have this guy here do it for you.
Steven Regal: "This guy" happens to a world class wrestler sunshine, and when he gets Arn Anderson in the ring later tonight, he'll show the world that he is deserving of the respect from fans everywhere. Jean Paul Levesque is not only my protege, but I consider him to be the future of this industry. A man that will take WCW to the next level along with myself. And at that point, men like yourself and Arn Anderson can know your place in wrestling, although on second thought, perhaps you already do. Here doing commentary and all.
Larry Zbyszko: You just name the time and place, and I'll show you where my place is!
Tony Schiavone: Alright, lets just allow cooler heads to prevail here. Lord Steven Regal and Jean Paul Levesque, who later on tonight will take on Arn Anderson. That, to come in hour #2. Right now though we send it back to David Penzer to introduce our next match here on WCW Monday Nitro.

Coming off an unsuccessful appearance last week, Gentleman Chris Adams returns this week to WCW Monday Nitro. The wrestler known best for his time spent in the Mid South and Texas region in the 1980s is looking to jump start his career once again on the national stage, tonight with a match against somebody in a similar position, Wild Bill Irwin. Adams' match last week was a loss to an uncharacteristically brash Brad Armstrong, using the aid of the ropes for leverage in his winning pin. A win here for Adams could get him a rematch with Armstrong. The match tonight with Adams and Irwin does not exactly have fans at the edge of their seats, but not for lack of action, probably just the conditioning of this match really not mattering. After about 5 minutes of back and forth action, Adams is able to hit the superkick onto Irwin and cover to grab the 3 count to take the win. Fans pop the result, whether for Adams' winning or the match being over, all the same thing at the end of the day. The commentators mention a possible rematch with Armstrong, but Larry Zbyszko would not be surprised to see Armstrong duck Adams as long as he can.
-- Third commercial break --
Tony Schiavone: Welcome back to WCW Monday Nitro. Joining us right now at ringside, Ron Simmons and Harlem Heat, and it was earlier on that we heard the challenge from the Ice Train. He wants you at Halloween Havoc with the U.S. title on the line.
Ron Simmons: Hey man. All he had to do was say it and you know I'll be there. I'm not 1 to back down from any challenge, least of all from some young nobody that calls himself the Ice Train. Let me tell you something about this here Ice Train. I remember what it was like to just be getting your first big break. You have some success, think your on top of the world, but let me tell you something. When you're at the top of that mountain, ain't nothing but a bunch of guys ready to knock you down from that peak. The last thing you need to do is invite somebody like me, a former WCW champion, to come try it. But that's exactly what you'll be getting come Halloween Havoc.
Tony Schiavone: Alright, there you have it. And what about Harlem Heat, last week's match with The Road Warriors ending without any decisive finish.
Booker T: Well sucka, see, it goes little somethin' like dis. We be playin' it real, and-
Ron Simmons: Hold on. We ain't finished with this match. See, the last couple of weeks, you 2 have come out and cost me my match. So what's gonna happen at the Halloween Havoc, this is me and Ice Train. Period. The 2 of you are gonna stay in the back because I gotta do this on my own. I gotta beat this Train and derail him on my own. You guys, take care of The Road Warriors, and I'll take care of Ice Train. Is that understood?
Booker T: Hey dog, we cool with that! We know that you can beat that sucka.
Stevie Ray: And we're gonna take care of The Road Warriors, and when we do that, we gonna go after the gold for ourselves. And then? We gonna have it all between the 3 of us.
Booker T: You dig?
Larry Zbyszko: Me?! Hey, you just go out and do what you say and I'll dig whatever you want. Right now though, you might just be digging a big hole for yourselves.
Tony Schiavone: And we will hear from The Road Warriors later on tonight during hour #2. It's main event time for hour #1 as we send it to David Penzer for the introductions.

The Horseman in training Shane Douglas found himself in hot water last week, not coming to the aid of Ric Flair and Arn Anderson fast enough when interference cost them the Tag Team title. Anderson conceded it was in part their fault for putting trust in an unproven Douglas and he may in fact not be Horsemen material. Douglas shot back with the challenge tonight for Barry Windham, accepted on Saturday Night over the weekend. Windham's interference came as a surprise as he was believed to have been in New Japan defending his title, only to have lost it with blame on J.J. Dillon, choosing to get back at him by costing his golden boy Flair his title. The match is now set, 1 year in the making, Ric Flair vs Barry Windham at Halloween Havoc. The Lone Wolf heads out to the ring but before the match, a quick break.
-- Fourth commercial break --
WCW Saturday Night Preview for October 12
- The Road Warriors will be in action
- Ron Simmons will be in action
- Dustin Rhodes will be in action
- All that and more, this Saturday at 6:05 eastern on TBS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Back from the break and Barry Windham is in the ring, awaiting the arrival of Shane Douglas. The Horseman in training, also referred to as The Stallion, this is a big chance for him to prove his worth to Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Not only that, but get a big chance to prove himself with the match makers here in WCW on the big stage, Monday Nitro. The match starts out with Windham upstaging Douglas. The Lone Wolf takes great pride in this, but that turns to being perhaps a bit too overly arrogant and Douglas starts to turn the tables on him. Fans cheer as a frustrated Windham leaves the ring and heads outside to argue with fans and tell them to shut up. Douglas just waits and when Windham comes back in, gives him an arm drag out of the lockup. Douglas gets to a side head lock, but Windham is able to shoot him off to the ropes. Douglas leapfrogs and catches Windham again with a hip toss. He gets up and eats a bodyslam before again retreating to the outside. Unable to gain any sort of head way here, Windham takes as much as he can, only entering at the referee's 9 count, immediately rolling back out to the floor. Larry Zbyszko from the ringside table tells him to get back in the ring, at which point Windham takes the headset and says he is through playing games tonight and Ric Flair had better pay attention to what is about to happen. With that Windham gets back in and manages to be the 1 to put on a side head lock. Douglas brings him back into the ropes, but Windham keeps the hold firmly locked in. The Lone Wolf turns it into a hammerlock from behind, but Douglas gets to the ropes for a break. Ever the cheap shot artist, Windham breaks, but gives a thumb to the eye as he does it. From there he sends Douglas into the ropes and delivers a flying clothesline before covering and getting a 2 count. Windham gets up when fans start to inexplicably cheer. Heads turn to the aisle ...
RIC FLAIR! The Nature Boy is heading to the ring as fast as possible. Windham does not see it in time and turns with Flair already in the ring, decking him with a right hand. Windham gets up and starts to eat chop after chop as the referee calls for the bell with Windham taking a DQ win, although not announced, nor is anybody overly concerned with that right now. Windham heads to the floor, but Flair follows. Windham turns and begs, but just gets a loud "WOOOOOOOOOOO!" to the face before Flair continues his offensive onslaught. Flair sends Windham back first into the steel barricade as the commentators speak of him wanting revenge from last week and clearly not wanting to wait until Halloween Havoc. The referee stands between them to give Windham time to get into the ring, but Flair just steps past the ref and goes in after him. Windham is on his back begging off with Flair approaching when Douglas comes at Flair from behind and turns him, but Flair just decks him! Flair is too focused to think about what he is doing, although at that moment Windham manages to get out of the ring and go down the aisle to escape while Flair looks on. Douglas gets up with Arn Anderson heading in as well, both trying to cool Flair down. Tony Schiavone says that it seemed like Douglas was trying to talk some sense into Flair there, but Zbyszko points out that maybe that is not what a Horseman does and could be strike 2 for him. Regardless, Flair will get Windham at Halloween Havoc.
-- Fifth commercial break --
