The real life version of Kick Ass Wrestling under local wrestler Terry Golden, ran from the beginning of 1999 through the start of 2000 before it merged with rival Power Pro Wrestling and became Memphis Wrestling, a short-lived development deal with the WWF.
Kick Ass was said to be a Southern version of ECW with all the blood and weapons, using mostly local wrestlers.
Here ... we're going 7 years back in time where Jerry Lawler is still very much the King of Memphis along with his buddies and son, ruling the roost. What if ... Jerry, unknown to all but a few, poured his money into a little local indy with his other son, Kevin and his buddy's son, Jamie as the top talent? Surround them with some local talent, with his pull, swing them a television deal, albeit a cruddy one and land them in the various gin joints and strip clubs in Memphis for live shows.
Just suppose, with a little bit of money put into this venture, it takes off as the "Anti-Memphis" promotion drums up some business "shooting" on the established USWA, drawing some local attention. The local guys get some work in the area perfecting their craft and Jerry makes money. That's a win-win for everyone.
If it fails, no one is the wiser and it gives Jerry more ammo in his claim to BE Memphis wrestling.
And so ... Kick Ass Wrestling begins ...

Hmm. Interesting concept. I love that you're always setting obstacles that force you to work within certain parameters. You set barriers & restrictions for yourself that practically force you to get creative. You did it in the WCFL with World Class - no TV deal, the radio outlet, etc. - and later with ECW - the bar wars, the way you spread your results across a month's worth of TV, etc.
I think it's a very unique approach, but it always seems to bring out the best qualities in your work. Can't wait to see you bring us a view of southern fried 'rasslin from the underbelly of Memphis. Should be good. Real, real good.

Great backstory, I can not wait to see the first show. Know your daft is golden in my book.

I like to start things with a concept of some sort - it gives me definitive confines to work within when not only writing but in the roster picking process and as you said, forces me to be creative which is why I am here in the first place. I write to entertain not only myself but those potential readers as well.
While my writing isn't for everyone, I think this will be different than my WCCW and ECW style and without some of the board restrictions will be a little more "raw" while still playing up to 1992 standards.

Yeah.. I just want to say something real quick, and I'm going to use harsh language here just because I can Vs. not being able to before.
I cannot FUCKING wait for this to pick up man. Should be fun. Are you writing with an end in mind ala WCCW? Or is this a project that will continue to grow as we do?

BTW Power Pro didn't merge with KAW, Lawler had a falling out with Randy Hales and left for KAW. With Lawler being under WWF contract, and it being a developmental territory, he was able to bring the WWE guys with him to KAW to which it was then changed to Memphis Championship Wrestling.
Oddly enough when MCW closed up shop, Lawler and company ended up going back to PPW for a bit and it was again a developmental.
There was also a point where both PPW & MCW were developmental territories for the WWE, I think at around the time Lawler/Hales made up.

I've read different things about PPW and KAW as well as Lawler's falling out with PPW. Of course, none of that is important to the story anyway.
Right now, this is an open ended project where I hope to continue to grow and evolve.

I like this A LOT. So different. A complete 360 from every other promotion so far.
You have a very unique roster and I look forward to seeing how you utilize them.

Agreed with Chief about being stoked for just how freaking unique & distinct this promotion is going to feel. It's entirely different from everything else out there. That in itself makes it bold & refreshing. Simply cannot wait to watch you go to work with it, Ape. The fact that you're going to allow it to progress & evolve naturally over time is just all the more enticing.

Man, the TV deal and the gin joint type venues gives you just the kind of boundaries you thrive on. I can't wait to see how creatives juices flow, GA. I'll be reading.
