We kicked things off here at the Coliseum with a return match from our last visit as Wolfie D went one on one with Brickhouse Brown. Wolfie was in control for the early portion of this one, only for Brown to battle back from behind leading to Wolfie doing some back peddling. Finish comes out of nowhere however as Wolfie D scores with a poke to the eyes just outside the officials view and school boys Brown for the tainted victory at 7:19.

Post Match- Wolfie stomps a mudhole in Brown after the match before turning to the spray can. Brown's able to make his OWN save and after a few right hands, fire off Wolfie into the ropes and score with a powerslam! With the crowd behind him Brickhouse Brown proceeds to get himself some payback from next week and this time around it's WOLFIE D that ends up with a YELLOW STREAK down his back!

A preview of the up coming USWA Jr. Heavyweight Title Tournament was up next as "Suicide Blonde" Chris Candido w/ "Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble teamed with Chris Hamrick to take on the fan favorite duo of Brian Christopher & "Dixie Dynamo" Scott Armstrong . Candido did NOT look happy teaming with Hamrick, Hamrick who has the distinction of not winning a single match since debuting here in the USWA. We get some fun interactions between Christopher & Candido in particular. After nearly 12 minutes of action, Candido's had enough and BAILS leaving Hamrick behind. Moments later Christopher & Scott put Hamrick away with a double super kick at 13:01.

Singles action follows with "Nightmare" Danny Davis going one on one with "BigBad" Bobby Knight . Quick little match with Bobby Knight using his size advantage to briefly gain control of this one, only for Davis to catch him off guard with a hangman's neckbreaker for the victory at just 3:13.

Huge featured match just before intermission as USWA Tag Team Champions: The Disciples Of A New Dawn (Maxx Payne & The Demolisher) w/ Daryl Van Horne put the belts on the line against the formidable Bruise Brothers (Don & Ron Harris)! It's a huge brawl thru and thru with the official completely losing control at around the 10 minute mark! It's thrown out all together when all 4 men arm themselves with chairs! The fight CONTINUES after the bell sounds, as we battle up the aisle with neither team really budging. BLOOD flows, but all 4 men appear to be strong. Official Result: NO CONTEST at 12:45!

Post Match- The brawl continues until Van Horne is able to convince his team to retreat. The Bruise Brothers raise their hands high for the crowd to see to a nice reaction. This one is FAR FROM OVER FANS!

Intermission

During intermission it's announced that NEXT WEEK it's MEMORIAL DAY at the Mid-South and we're reminded that we will crown a USWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion! Stay tuned to "Championship Wrestling" for more details!

Back from intermission with singles action as the controversial "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol goes one on one with the youngest of the Armstrong clan: Brian Armstrong. It appears as though that Idol has completely turned heel as he attacks young Brian before the bell. The former Gulf War vet makes a brief comeback, but this only seems to piss Idol off. He's in go home mode a few moments later, locking in the Las Vegas Leglock for the submission victory at 7:10.

Tag team action follows as The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) make their return to the area to a lot of fan fare as the battle the East Coast Brotherhood's Bad Crew (Dog & Rose) w/ "Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble Although the Bad Crew get the jump on the babyfaces before the bell, they're not able to fully capitalize on it 'cause well... BAD CREW SUCKS. About a minute later Rogers & Fulton score with the Rocket Launcher on Rose for the win at just 1:30. A successful return for the Fantastics here tonight at the Mid South Coliseum fans!

Singles action follows with some of the younger talent the USWA has to offer as Marcus Alexander Bagwell goes one on one with David Young. It's back and forth for a bit, somewhat competitive but in the end it's exactly what it appears to be as Bagwell comes out on top with his bridging Fisherman's Suplex finish at 6:11.

Our semi-final was next as Koko B. Ware teamed with the brand new TV5 Champion: "Superstar" Bill Dundee to take on the duo of 2 time former TV5 Champion: Billy Joe Travis & his personal body guard: Rod. Good old fashioned southern tag team wrestling here tonight at the Mid South. Koko plays baby face in peril for a good long period of time. The heels are the heels, simple as that, working together and using just about every underhanded tactic imaginable to get the job done. Super fun finish see's Dundee score with a second rope flying forearm smash on Travis while the official is with Koko Ware. Price breaks up the pin with a knee to the back of Dundee's neck and puts Travis on top. The official then gets tied up with price allowing Koko to come in off the top rope with a flying legdrop and put Dundee on top for the win as "Bodyguard" Rod celebrates thinking Travis has won at 21:09!

Post Match- Here comes the water works from Billy Joe Travis as he yet again breaks down in tears! Bill Dundee takes to the microphone.

Bill Dundee: " Billy you've got to be kidding mate, pull yourself together.. quit being such a CRY BABY! "

Dundee & Koko share a laugh as they lead the crowd in the cry baby chant!

Main Event time as the BRAND NEW USWA Heavyweight Champion: "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert defends against now former champion: Jerry "the King" Lawler. These two rivals pick up right where they left off on TV. Back and forth brawling, with BOTH men not hesitating to break the rules every so often. Finish is not without controversy as Gilbert puts official Frank Morell in harms way, as he pulls him in front of a charging Lawler. With no referee Gilbert scores with a low blow and sets up for the illegal piledriver! Lawler counters with a back drop! A few punches and an uppercut later, and THE STRAPS ARE DOWN! HUGE PILEDRIVER FOR HOT STUFF EDDIE GILBERT!!!!! The King covers... no official... so of course now...

Austin Idol

Strikes attacking the King from behind. Idol scores with a piledriver of his own, before turning to wake up Eddie Gilbert. Gilbert and Idol set the King up for a double hot shot. That's right, IDOL & GILBERT ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO DESTROY THE KING HERE TONIGHT AT THE MID SOUTH COLISEUM! Idol wakes the official up, and yep after the Hot Shot Gilbert's able to score with pin and retain the title at 25:09.

Post Match- Idol & Gilbert leave to jeers as Lawler recovers and takes to the microphone.

Jerry Lawler: "Well... I knew something was up, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see Austin Idol working side by side with Eddie Gilbert... I've got a few phone calls to make, the first one is to YOU Eddie Marlin... 'cause RIGHT HERE NEXT WEEK I'm BRINGING a partner who I KNOW will stand by my side and I want those two hot heads RIGHT HERE at the MID-SOUTH COLISEUM! "

Wow. The main event was a killer. Jerry Lawler pissed off Austin Idol enough that he's even working with Eddie Gilbert now. I don't think the fans see the selfish side of Lawler. Gilbert HAS to be loving this though. I just hope we don't see piledrivers every week in the Coliseum. The two worked really well here and I'd love to see that still of Idol piledriving Lawler again and again next week on TV. I'm a fan of Lawler too but you've made Idol and Gilbert into such great personalities that it's hard for me to root against them.

Poor Billy Joe Travis. I can't believe Bill Dundee is still picking on the guy. Dundee was LUCKY that he even won the match in the first place. Every single match is important to Billy Joe, that's why he gets so emotional.

Good showcase matches for Bagwell and the Fantastics. The USWA will be great for years to come with all the young talent you've got coming up.

Damn. Austin Idol cements his heel turn and I was hoping he'd just heel against Lawler but face with everyone else. This match with Brian Armstrong was great to show that since Brian is still such a rookie.

The Bruisers and Disciples is HEATING up real quick. It'd be so awesome to see some sort of concession stand brawl break out between these two teams.

The Grudge match opener worked on so many levels. Wolfie D gets an important win AND Brown gets a small measure of revenge. I know both men are going to want a rubber match and I can only guess what it's going to involve, lol.

Super fun show Dream.

Agreed with Chief. This show was just truckloads of freaking fun, man. From top to bottom, the card really resonated as a Memphis Coliseum card. The opener kicked things off right. Brick didn't get the W, but he got payback for last week by knocking Wolfie D into next week! Good stuff. Fun little feud you've cooked up there. Especially liked Brick painting the yellow streak down Wolfie's back. Nice touch there.

I like the talent you have stepping up. Bagwell is a decent hand. He's much better at this stage than he gets credit for. I think a lot of people paint a revisionist picture of him, based on his bad reputation & declined skills later on. That's too bad. You've certainly found a solid spot for him among your roster. Enjoyed seeing the wins for Davis & the Fantastics as well. Things will be heating up like a Mempho fireball here soon.

Candido keeps his swagger, and Christopher continues to excel. Can't wait for the outcome of that junior title tourney. With Davis also in the mix as a sort of wild card, you just never know what's going to go down there.

Dundee came across as a bit of a bully, but you know the faithful & loyal Memphis fans can't help but love their Superstar - ESPECIALLY when he's standing next to the Birdman! Really finding entertainment value in the "crybaby" aspect you've brought to Travis' game here. I'd personally like to see it extend out into him being overly emotional about ALL SORTS of things - not just throwing a fit when he loses. Playing him as the emotional nutcase... eventually... could be crazy good.

Hmm. A Concession Stand Brawl in the tag division? Well I'm on board for that. With your creativity at work, I could easily see you packing plenty of fun spots into that type of match. I know I always enjoyed the wild & chaotic matches you'd write for Dream Gate. Things like the tables not cooperating & the odd choices for weaponry make for real nice touches.

I must admit, I was a little disappointed to see Austin Idol go full-fledged heel here. Like Chief, I was hoping for him to heel it up on Lawler & play strictly the rebellious baby face guy with everyone else. I'll wait & see what you do here. The way you presented his turn (at the close of the show) felt really dramatic though. He put a big stamp on his association with Gilbert, and I think you had Lawler sell it the right way.

The Piledriver, followed up by the Dual Hot Shot, was quite the beat-down. Jerry's "call" is the perfect kind of hook to reel us back in for television this weekend. Of course, everyone will be tuning in. As history has proven, you just never know who could walk into the Memphis television studios on any given morning. Everybody who's anybody has walked that floor.

Great job. Hoping you somehow retain that "edge" with Idol's character, even if he works heel alongside Gilbert. They've got such diverse & distinct personalities. Should be tremendously awesome to watch them interact & play off one another's characters in the future. Big thumbs up, Drew.

Should still be able to retain the "edge" at least I hope, hehe. The idea of the Gilbert/Idol team is a union of the two guys who have 'caused Lawler the most damage in all of his career coming together to destroy the King. Eddie's fireball to Lawler from real life years back has taken place in our continuity as well as Idol/Rich/Paul E. shaving the King bald.

Part of my reasoning for turning Idol full heel has to do with something I read in a '95 Observer recently. Lawler/Hales wanted Idol to turn full fledge heel as it would get them more matches on top (tag bouts and what not) but Idol refused to do it and only wanted to run heel Vs. Lawler & face Vs. everyone else... it lead to their return program in '95 starting out hot but fizzling out really quickly since they didn't have the tag matches to fall back on and had to run it in it's entirety over a few weeks as to not burn it out. This being fantasy I don't have to worry about Idol's real life attitude problems/protection of his character and now can let the story that *COULD HAVE BEEN* play out over a much longer period of time.

Nice little Tagger Battle you have going on between Wolfie and Brickhouse. Win or lose, Wolfie comes out big on this feud.

Candido partnering with lesser talents and "leaving them at the alter" is something else. Him walking out adds depth to the character and should be pissing off Rumble royally. The guy can't buy a win here.

The tag champs and the Bruise Brothers are the top tag feud though I am holding out hope The Fantastics will swoop in and surprise everyone. And speak of the devil, The Fantastics win big over the Bad Crew. Note to Tony ... Get some new clients. The digs on the BC are hilarious.

Fun match with Dundee and Koko teaming up. Super finish that's perfect for Travis and doesn't make him look bad in the least. The water works makes him even more fun.

Can't wait to see just who the King brings to get a little payback.

Nice way for Brickhouse to even things up. I wasn't surprised that Candido bailed here. I wonder how the other Armstrongs will take Idol's win. I guess that Idol's turn is official now. Good win by Bagwell. Dundee just shows how versitile he is.

Sorry for bumping this one up to the top of board!

Wolfie D/Brickhouse Brown continues to be a fun undercard feud! Loved how the situation here is the complete opposite of last week’s MSC show, with Wolfie winning and Brickhouse painting the yellow stripe down HIS back. Both men have gone tit for tat with each other and benefited greatly, and I can’t wait to see in what direction you take this feud next!

Christopher/Armstrong vs. Candido and Hamrick went about the way I expected it to, with Hamrick taking the fall so the faces can go over without hurting Candido, but Chris walking out on his partner was most definitely unexpected. I agree with Grape that it adds an extra layer to Candido’s heel persona. Brian Christopher and Scott Armstrong actually worked very well together, and I wouldn’t mind seeing them team on a regular basis.

Bruise Brothers/Disciples of a New Dawn delivered exactly as they were supposed to, with a bloody chair swinging brawl that allows both teams to walk away with their heads held high. Like Pack’s use of Public Enemy in CCW, this feud serves as a palette cleanser that gives fans a taste of the hardcore style that they’re not used to seeing every day, and this four guys can brawl with the very best of them!

Good wins for Marcus Bagwell and the debuting Fantastics! Your tag team division is really starting to take shape!

Dundee/Koko vs. Travis/Rod was your quintessential Memphis tag team match, with a finish right out of the old Jerry Jarrett playbook! The “faces pulling the same trick the heels just did” trick is a perennial favorite of mine! It looks like this crybaby thing is turning into a full blown gimmick for Billy Joe Travis, and it’s one I can see him completely embracing. It good, old fashioned, harmless fun!

Lawler/Gilbert II more than lived up to my expectations. Personally, I don’t have a problem with Austin Idol turn full blown heel. As you’ve already said, there are more booking possibilities with a heel Austin than there is with a tweener. Plus Idol and Gilbert make a great heel duo that can work together to keep the belt away from Lawler while alternately making his life miserable! Looking forward to seeing who Lawler calls in to be his partner, but as always we’ll have to tune into the TV5 to find out!
