Your opening contest sees brash youngster Wolfie D go one on one with Brick House Brown. Crowd was solidly behind Brown here as Wolfie D is doing the "gangster wannabe/rebellious teen" thing, carrying with him a can of spray paint to the ring. Back and forth contest, that see's Wolfie bend the rules to gain a real advantage as we reach the home stretch. Brickhouse is able to score with an out of nowhere small package to pick up the victory at 8:15.

Post Match- As Brown celebrates to cheers, Wolfie proves to be a spoiled sport attacking from behind with a clubbing blow from his trusty spray can. After a DDT Wolfie resorts to spraying a YELLOW STREAK down the back of Brickhouse Brown! Officials hit the ring as Wolfie exits to jeers!

Six man tag team action followed as "The Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble lead out his "East Coast Brotherhood" trio of The Bad Crew (Dog & Rose) & Chris Candido to take on the trio of The Armstrongs (Scott & Brian) & Koko B. Ware. Boy is that bird over man, as the fans seem to light up everytime Koko brings Frankie to ringside. Fun little match, with some good wrestling coming out of it especially when Candido's involved. Finish see's Scott score with a super kick on Rose allowing Koko to hoist him up for the "Ghostbuster"(Brain Buster) for the hard fought victory at 12:19.

After a fun six man tag we move onto our first "Featured Match" of the evening as USWA TV5 Champion: Jeff Jarrett looks for some much deserved revenge as he battles former champion: Billy Joe Travis. Jarrett's head was heavily bandaged as a result of a Travis guitar attack just two days ago on "Championship Wrestling". With a ton of heat involved, it's no surprise that this hardly resembles a wrestling match but instead is an intense brawl to which official: Paul Neighbors ALMOST throws out all together. Unfortunately for Jarrett, his head injury is a huge target. After a good long heat sequence, Jarrett mounts a comeback scoring with some high impact moves. After a beautiful drop kick, he SUDDENLY COLLAPSES TO THE CANVAS! The official quickly checks on him, and we've got medical personal, as well as Jarrett's father (Jerry) & grandfather (Eddie Marlin) out at ringside. Travis backs off with a state of shock, BUT goes back to heeling it up, demanding to know who the winner is. As a stretcher comes to ringside for "Double J" we get word that as a result of Jarrett not being able to continue BILLY JOE TRAVIS is the official winner at 13:45.

Post Match- Billy Joe sticks around to gloat, prompting JERRY JARRETT to get in his face. Eddie Marlin convinces Jerry to back down as Billy Joe makes a quick exit, guitar in hand!

After what in itself is almost an intermission with Jeff being loaded onto a stretcher it's time for our first of two huge title matches as Daryl Van Horne leads out his championship team The Disciples Of A New Dawn: Maxx Payne & The Demolisher to take on the duo of "Nightmare" Danny Davis & Marcus Alexander Bagwell. The heels approach is quite ruthless, but Payne in particular can surprise you with a good suplex every so often. Davis' quest for vengeance, and the desire to regain the gold shows threw and threw. However in the end it's Van Horne providing a distraction that allows Payne to attack Davis from behind, and drop him over the top rope. This leaves Marcus with the Demolisher, who Bagwell surprises with his trademark fisherman's suplex, BUT NO OFFICIAL due to Payne & Davis having his attention on the outside. Bagwell releases his hold, gets the officials attention, BUT THE DEMOLISHER SNATCHES HIM UP FROM BEHIND AND LOCKS IN A COBRA CLUTCH! Bagwell doesn't give up, but is put to sleep moments later giving the champions the win at 16:32.


Post Match- With Bagwell out of the picture, the heels proceed to continue their attack on Danny Davis! Only for...

The BRUISE BROTHERS!

To hit the ring and run the heels off! The Bruise Brothers have put the champions on notice fans!

Intermission

During intermission it's announced that Jeff Jarrett is fine and only seems to have suffered a mild stinger as a result of this past Saturday's attack. Hopefully we'll have more on his condition Saturday on Championship Wrestling. We do know as of now he's scheduled to defend his TV Championship against Billy Joe Travis.


Tag action brings us back from Intermission as TheBruise Brothers (Don & Ron Harris) take on he duo of the Masked Executioner & David Young. It's a squash, but doesn't get a real finish as...

Post Match - The brawl continues, with officials and enhancement workers hitting the ring to break it up! The battle lines have been drawn here tonight at the Mid-South fans!

Our next match is billed as a preview to the upcoming USWA Jr. Heavyweight Title Tournament as Brian Christopher goes one on one with Chris Hamrick. Not much to it really as it's clearly a vehicle for Christopher to show his stuff. Midway through the match..

Post Match- Candido & Christopher briefly exchange words, Christopher turns his back for a second and Candido hints at an attack, but thinks better of it as Brian turns around.

Our Semi Main Event is one of our "Featured Matches" as "The Superstar" Bill Dundee goes one on one with "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert. A lot on the line here as the winner will challenge for the USWA Heavyweight Championship right here next week in the main event. The crowd is solidly behind Dundee, prompting Eddie to cover his ears at times throughout the bout. Good old fashioned Southern Rasslin' right here. Gilbert solidly playing heel, and Dundee playing face quite perfectly. You know it wouldn't be an Eddie Gilbert match without a questionable finish, as Dundee scores with a cross body block only for Eddie to roll thru and NOT ONLY HOOK THE TIGHTS but also manage to get his feet in the ropes for the tainted victory at 16:58.


Post Match- Dundee protest but it's too late. Eddie celebrates on the floor, pointing and laughing at Dundee every so often. Eddie Gilbert will challenge the winner of tonight's Austin Idol/Jerry Lawler main event RIGHT HERE NEXT WEEK AT THE MID SOUTH!

It's time for our main event, and it's a huge one with the USWA Heavyweight Championship on the line as Jerry "The King" Lawler defends against top contender "The Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol. I won't go as far as to say the crowd is split, but Idol does have his fair share of fans showing their support. It's a slow start, with neither man really heeling but as the match goes on each resorts to "bending the rules" just a bit with some heated punches, and rope breaks. Awesome match, both men end up getting color. Idol takes over, the strap comes down and it looks like your typical King finish, BUT IDOL GETS HIS FOOT UP as Jerry comes off the top with the fist drop! They brawl to the outside moments later, with "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert getting into a verbal war of words with Lawler on the outside! Goating him into throwing a punch! Lawler & Gilbert brawl on the floor, leading to the King getting counted out at 25:49.


Post Match- Idol's announced as the winner but doesn't seem to happy about it. After getting his hand raised, he blows past Lawler who's down and out thanks to Gilbert and SNATCHES THE USWA TITLE FROM THE TIME KEEPERS TABLE! Titles DON'T CHANGE HANDS VIA DQ, IDOL FULLY KNOWS THIS. Idol leaves with the title, as Gilbert exits with a huge smile on his face!

After regaining his composure the King looks for the title, but is informed that Idol made off with it. Lawler takes to the microphone calling Idol back, but to no avail. He gets word from our ring announcer Corey Maclin that Idol has left the building!

Jerry "The King" Lawler : " Austin Idol, if I know you like I think I know you, I know you're not happy with the way things just went down. You're not the champion till you beat me, but tonight stealing the belt? Hopefully it's all just a misunderstanding, hopefully you just got caught up in the moment of it all. I'm expecting my belt back in due time, and NEXT WEEK after I punch that brat Eddie Gilbert's lights out, me and you have some unfinished business! "

Quick Results: Brickhouse Brown defeated Wolfie D via pinfall off a small package at 8:15.

The Armstrongs (Brian & Scott) & Koko B. Ware defeated The Brotherhood (Bad Crew Dog, Bad Crew Rose & Chris Candido) w/ "Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble when Koko pinned Rose with the Ghostbuster at 12:19.

Billy Joe Travis defeated Jeff Jarrett via ref stoppage at 13:45.

USWA Tag Team Champions: The Disciples (Maxx Payne & The Demolisher) w/ Daryl Van Horne retained their titles over "Nightmare" Danny Davis & Marcus Bagwell when the Demolisher made Marcus submit to the Cobra Clutch at 16:32.

The Bruise Brothers (Don & Ron Harris) defeated The Masked Executioner & David Young via DQ when the Disciples interfered at 4:48.

You wern't kidding when you said this show would be up soon.

Good show overall establishing your vision of what you want Memphis to look and feel which feels to me at least quite authentic to real life.

Can't fault the layout and general match writing at all but that's what made Dream Gate such a treat to read in the past the little details really make it for me and your one of the best Drew at painting a pictue with the little details

Good work here looking foward to the next show already.

Rocking cool show. You weren't kidding when you said you'd get one up fast. That is always a good sign when the first show is up practically moments after joining up.

This has the look and feel of Mempho with many of the key players that we love from the area. Really good start - can't wait to see what comes next!

This was a very good MSC card. I liked the main event angle a lot - set the table nicely for Gilbert-Lawler and some day Lawler-Idol II (well, really Idol-Lawler 36 ).

Interesting angle with Double J as well!

Now this felt like a Memphis Coliseum show! Awesome work, Drew. Really gets us rolling into your new version of the USWA. All the right guys were in the right spots, I'd say. The card was supremely well-structured, from top to bottom. I see a lot of little things I like, and (more importantly) plenty of big deals to latch onto here.

That main event had just enough substance to hook me. Idol's personality is always one short fuse away from igniting. I love that. His whole demeanor of being above a good guy or a bad guy is crazy cool. Hot Stuff is the perfect catalyst to set off this whole thing. King, as usual, is caught directly in the middle. Fun angle to kick-start this saga.

The Jarrett stuff was neat, too. I always like to see Jerry get involved with things. Similar to Dusty & Dustin, it brings a realistic edge to things. It spices up the story with a personal touch. I dig that. The "collapsing" angle always turned heads & got some attention, so I liked you employing it to get people buzzing here. Billy Joe's guitar remained intact though, which surprised me.

Christopher & Candido on top of the junior division? I'm down for that. Especially intrigued to see how you play Rumble paired with Chris. Should lead to some entertaining results. Not real big on the landscape of the tag division at the moment. It fits Mempho, sure. But I'd prefer a few more guys that can bring the action. You've got the Armstrongs in effect, so maybe I'm just being impatient. Either way, we'll see where it goes from here.

Great start. You've certainly got my attention. Can't wait for the next event now.

I considered bringing in Snow, but since I base a lot of how I write Snow on a combo of real life Al and Eddie Gilbert I figured he wasn't necessary, at least not yet.

As far as the tag division is concerned the two teams I plan on basing it around have yet to debut, don't you worry though it'll be a major part of the upcoming huge story within the next few weeks. For whatever reason back in the WCFL I got a lot more negative feedback for my Memphis vision as opposed to positive but always personally saw it as my best work.

I enjoyed your Mempho run. Never got into all the backlash over it. I've said before that there was a good 2 to 3 year span in the WCFL where Memphis was just solid gold, man. Nothing wrong came out of that territory for a while.

But yeah. I think of Puerto Rico (and now Dream Gate) as your best runs. Not sure why. I think with the WWC it was more of a nostalgia thing. I remember reading your work on the island & first thinking, "Yeah. THIS guy gets it."

But, my own personal preferences aside, I find that you always manage to adapt your work. You're a freaking chameleon, man. You mold & shift your writing to fit whatever area you're booking. I dig that. And, with Mempho, that's already looking like truckloads of fun.

So this is your second crack at Memphis, then? I'm only familiar with your more recent work in ECW and Dreamgate, but if it's anything like the stuff I read right here I'll have to go back and hunt that down!

Good work with your opener! It's been a long time since I've seen Brickhouse play face and Wolfie play heel, so that was a nice bit of nostalgia right out of the gate. Wolfie's use of the spray can, as well as the yellow streak (a true southern wrestling stable if there ever was one) were both well played and should lead to an interesting feud between the two.

The East Coast Brotherhood is an inspired idea for a stable. If Chairman had done this with Dennis Corraluzzo instead of...you know, what he actually did, he may have sold me on the idea of him as the evil figurehead. As far as what you're doing, Tony Rumble was custom made for this role and Candido is good choice as the group's crown jewel! Candido/Brian Christopher should be a great rivlary to build your Junior Heavyweight Division around. Looking forward to seeing where you go with these guys from here! Oh, and...BAD CREW SUCKS!!! BAD CREW SUCKS!!!

Jeff Jarrett/Billy Joe Travis is what Memphis Wrestling is all about! An intense, bloody brawl between one of the great homegrown talents of the region and a heel who isn't afraid to be a real bad guy! One of the things that's been ticking me off about the "other USWA" is that Jarrett was never treated like the number two good guy in the company, like he was at this time in real life, but seeing Jarrett defending the TV5 Title with heart and pride assures me that he's in good hands here!

Loved your tag title match! I was a big fan of James Mitchell's work as Daryl Van Horne in Smokey Mountain, so I'm very jazzed over seeing him in here Mempho! I actually remember watching Maxx Payne's original run in the real life CWA, so this is kind of like a homecoming. Pairing Payne with the Demolisher (neat name) makes for a good team as well as your inaugural champs. They're similar enough in look and style to feel like they belong together, and thrown together enough to feel like a tag team that USWA would have actually created at this time. Throwing the Bruise Brothers into the mix as their next challengers is all kinds of awesome and should lead to some killer brawls. Maybe a Tupelo Concession Stand Death Match is in our futures?!

Absolutely phenomenal Main Event, sir! Lawler/Idol is such a classic match that it's very hard to screw up (although it's amazing how many people HAVE managed to screw it up), and reading what you wrote immediately took me back in time! The Eddie Gilbert confrontation, the Lawler count out, Idol stealing the belt, and Lawler calling him out after the show all rang true! With this one match you showed a complete understanding of the Memphis Wrestling Cycle; use the MSC shows to get people to watch the TV show, then use the TV show to get people to buy a ticket to the next MSC show, and repeat. You obviously got the first part right, and I have faith that you'll do the next part when your first TV show is up!

As a proud Tennessee native, I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to be able to read a CWA/USWA show and not want to trash my computer monitor after I'm done! Nothing left me scratching my head! I didn't question any of your booking decision! You were faithful to the feel of the original territory, yet still weren't afraid to create your own new things (the East Coast Brotherhood, the Disciples of a New Dawn, etc.)! This was...just a whole lot of fun! Bless you, sir!!!

I think the backlash to your previous Memphis work was the transition from the islands and who you brought in with you. Many of your main guys came over with you and carried over their pushes. If I remember correctly, that seems to be the biggest complaint, otherwise, there wasn't anything wrong with your run as far as I'm concerned.

Right out of the gate I enjoyed this show. The opener gave Wolfie D a distinct personality and yet you still had the veteran Brown go over due to his experience. Despite losing, Wolfie still came out with some shine and the yellow streak is such a viable gimmick for him.

Tony Rumble's Brotherhood is such a fun little group. I can really tell that you had some fun putting this roster together and there's such a difference between this and your Dream Gate stuff, yet the same quality remains. Candido at the forefront of your Jr. Division is not a bad thing at all for him.

I LOVED the Jeff Jarrett/Billy Travis match. The entire thing felt so real and not forced in the slightest. The match was put together excellently, the finish made sense and helped develop the story AND the post match just added so much emotion to the entire thing. Travis is going to have a lot to answer for on TV. This is my match of the night.

I don't know why I didn't think of it but the Bruise Brothers make fantastic foils to the Disciples. I can already see the damage and chaos these four men will be causing to the Coliseum in the near future. You have already made me such a huge fan of Payne and the Demolisher. It's hard for me to root against them. The line has certainly been drawn in the sand between these two teams. Also liked Bagwell passing out instead of submitting. A pretty boy like him needs to come across as tough to be taken seriously.

Brian Christoper vs. Chris Candido is going to be amazing. You just know it's going to happen.

Eddie Gilbert is just such a natural bad guy but especially here in Memphis. I love how he had to grab the tights AND put his feet on the ropes. The man really wanted to win. I am super psyched to see him fight for the title.

The main event is something I can truly get behind because it displayed such a multi-layered story. Who knows what would've happened if Gilbert didn't interfere. From a fan's perspective, Idol could've had the upper hand prior to Gilbert's interference. Austin Idol won the match and believes he should be the champion, that's why he took the title. Now Lawler has a personal issue with Idol for disrespecting him and taking his title and he has to worry about his upcoming match with Eddie Gilbert. This may be a little too much on the King's plate. I'd love to see either man dethrone him.

Awesome show. I felt like I was watching it in person while I was reading it.

Good start to a Wolfie D/Brickhouse program. Too bad Candido was saddled here. Scary moment for Jarrett. Interesting that The Bruise borthers made the save for Davis. I hope this doesn't mean that Davis's quest is over. Christopher and Candido will rock and thank you for involving Rumble. Idol taking the King's belt after the countout caused by Gilbert really makes me want to see Mempho TV this week.
