Monday At The Mid-South
Monday Night 8/6/92
Mid-South Coliseum
Memphis, Tenesee
Our opening bout see's the Jr. heavyweight duo of USWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion: Al Snow & Too Cold Scorpio battle the Stud Stable duo of Brian Christopher & The Gambler w/ Robert Fuller. Scorpio & Snow make for a fine team despite the fact they'll be opposition this week on Championship Wrestling. But that all comes to a close when Snow accidently takes his own partner out on the apron, allowing Brian to cradle him up at 12:28.
Post Match- The baby faces look ready to explode, as Christopher yucks it up on the outside. In the end cooler heads prevail on the inside and we get a friendly hand shake and an "I'll see you Saturday"
Singles action see's Daryl Van Horne lead out the monster known only as Doomsday into action against the always mysterious Spell Binder. The juiced up Spell Binder puts forth an effort, in fact we get our FIRST two count every on Doomsday off Spell Binder's spin wheel kick! Of course he sits up seconds later and puts Binder down with a big boot. Power Bomb finishes Spell Binder off once and for all at 6:03.
"Wild Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers is in action next against the returning Billy Joe Travis who surprisingly is lead out by "Tennessee Studd" Robert Fuller. Good old fashioned Southern style rasslin' here, Smothers picks up the victory off an out of nowhere jaw jacker at 9:03.
Post Match- Water works ALMOST happen, but Fuller is there to keep his new charge calm, and cover his ears during the "crybaby" chant.
Just before intermission as Jerry "the King" Lawler & Terry Funk are in action for the first of two times tonight against the outlaw duo of "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert & "Wild Fire" Tommy Rich. Wild out of control brawl. All four men get color, finish is as tainted as it gets as Funk hoist Gilbert up for a backsuplex only to fall prey to a loaded (via a steel chain) punch prompting Eddie to fall on top for the victory at 13:32.
Post Match- While raising Gilbert's hand the official finds the chain, AND REVERSES THE DECISION! Gilbert & Rich pitch a fit, and corner our referee a few seconds later. Funk & Lawler make the save, and TAKE THE HEELS OUT! After sending them up and over the top rope Gilbert & Rich make a quick retreet! Funk & Lawler stand tall!
Intermission
During intermission we're reminded to check out Championship Wrestling for MORE INFO on BATTLECADE! Also tickets are available at the gate!
Grudge match welcomes us back as "Simply Irresistible" Jeff Jarrett battles New Jack of the Gangstas. Before the bout it's decreed that Wolfie D, Tracy Smothers & Mustafa are banned from ringside! Jarrett picks up the win, out wrestling Jack and putting him away with a bridging backsuplex at 10:28.
Post Match- As Jeff celebrates the Gangstas are they to beat him down, we've got the noose again... HERE COMES TRACY SMOTHERS! He cleans house for a bit, but the numbers are just too much! New Jack HANGS JEFF JARRETT just as they did to Tracy two weeks ago! Various underneath guys hit the ring and get beaten down, FINALLY EDDIE MARLIN IS OUT WITH JERRY JARRETT! Some sort of threats are exchanged to get the Gangstas out of there! The Gangstas have sent a message here today at the Coliseum!
Tag Team Action follows as for the first time in over 10 years Koko B. Ware teams up with "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton! Their opposition is the double tough duo of the Black Hearts (Apocalypse & Destruction) . Eaton & Ware are a well oiled machine, busting out spots made famous by the Midnight Express of course, before finishing Destruction with a Koko Ghostbuster followed by an Eaton Alabama Jam off the top at just 6:10! An impressive return!
Main Event: 4 on 4 Elmination Match as Jerry "the King" Lawler, Terry Funk, "Fantastic" Bobby Fulton & Marcus Alexander Bagwell face off against the gold carrying Dangerous Alliance team of: Heavyweight Champion:"Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol, TV5 Champion "Superstar" Bill Dundee, & Tag Champions "Terrific" Terry Taylor & Greg "the Hammer" Valentine. King & Funk were showing some effects from the earlier bout. This was a great freaking main event. We go a good long stretch without a single elimination, that is until Taylor breaks up a Bagwell pin on Idol with the Five Arm allowing Idol to score a pin of his own at 15:32. "Superstar" Bill Dundee is next to be elminating, tying things up, Dundee was mixing it up with the King not realizing that a tag had been made to Fulton who came in off the top with a sunset flip at 21:02. Terry was next to go, giving the faces an advantage as Funk was able to score with an out of nowhere DDT at 25:56. Out next was Terry Funk, who battled it out with Idol on the outside but a distraction from Paul E. forced him to just miss breaking the count, eliminating him via countout at 32:49. Bobby Fulton would be eliminated next, giving the heels a two to one advantage. Fulton would miss a charge in the corner and fall victim to Idol's swinging neckbreaker at 35:54. Lastly, and some would say sadly, the King would taste defeat. For a good three or four minutes they doubled up on 'em, till he made the hot comeback, straps down and all. He'd end up covering Idol off a second rope fist drop, but Paul E. had the official allowing Valentine to come in off the second rope with Paul E's trademark phone and bash it down across the back of the skull. Idol then covered for the tainted victory at 42:28.
