Kick Ass Wrestling
Elma Roane Fieldhouse
7/28/1992
Memphis, Tennessee
Kick Ass Wrestling's first big monthly show in their 2 month's of existence. David Jett kicks off the festivities by thanking the healthier than expected crowd for coming out.
The first match finds Apolo Dantes taking on Ben Jordan in a match that should be to his liking with a Best of Three Falls. Alfonso and son with the usual entrance with sign and tonight Mariachi music while Ken Timbs and Ben Jordan with a last minute pep talk. We get a high speed contest that sees the high flying Apolo pulling out all of the stops in perhaps his biggest match to date, getting the fans to their feet with several dives to the outside. Despite the showing, Ben Jordan pulls off the first fall with a bulldog on a shaken Dantes folliowing a missed senton.
After a tongue lashing from his father, Apolo Dantes again pulls out the stops with the high flying moves but a Jordan drop kick to the legs pulls the pin on that strategy when Apolo comes up limping. With a visible advantage, Jordan attacks the leg and is able to pull of the second fall with a single leg Boston Crab that forces the young Dantes to submit. Alfonso Dantes is beside himself after the match yelling at anyone within earshot.
Tag team action follows with the Professor's Falk U! Grads against the masked YellowJackets. Despite being attacked before the bell, the Professor's grads are up to the task. The mat technicians ground the brawling style of their opponents and Scott Taylor picks up the win after rolling one of the YellowJackets to their back.
The "Battle of the Fur Coat" starts with a little action BEFORE the bell as Reggie B is hesitant to hand over his $300 to Tasha as agreed last week on television. Referee Al Hall explains with a little help from David Jett that Reggie B must pay $300 to get the match. Underway, the much smaller Izzy is a ball of nonstop action that befuddles Reggie B. It is the usual Reggie B antics delaying the match as much as possible, leaving the ring and calling for a time out. A dive through the ropes from Izzy stops that fast where he puts a pummeling on Reggie B. Several near pinfalls from Izzy but a cheating Reggie is able make a comeback. We get a ref bump and Tasha gets involved in things with a low blow from behind but the ever wily Reggie B is ready with his armored codpiece. Yanking it off and holding it up to show the fans that he outsmarted Tasha isn't the smartest thing to have done as Izzy puts B down with a "boot to the jewels". Reggie B drops like a ton of bricks, Izzy makes the cover and Tasha brings Al Hall around. We get the 1, 2, 3 and Izzy has won the match and the fur coat.
Different match here with the Boogie Woogie Man and the Turtle in his corner against Big Sid. Typical Jimmy before the match but once the bell sounds, the Boogie Woogie Man with lefts and rights. Sid is rocked and Valiant bouncing off the ropes hits with a shoulder. Sid is unfazed! Valiant with a second one and Sid is telling him to do it again. A change of plans and Jimmy with the Irish whip ... NO! Reversal and Jimmy hits the far ropes. On the return a big boot to the kisser and Jimmy goes down! Staggered, Jimmy is given a helping hand to his feet and Sid lifts him into the air before shaking the ring with a huge chokeslam. With the fans chanting his name, Sid points to the Turtle in the corner. With a flurry of hand motions, the Turtle attempts to hold the big man off. A smiling Sid mimics the moves before grabbing the Turtle around the neck. Lifting him into the air, Sid brings him down to a thunderous applause. That gets the Turtle a second one before Sid leaves the ring with the victory. Both Valiant and the Turtle need assistance to leave the ring.
Intermission with the Kick Ass Icons, the Falk U! Grads, Scotty the Body and Scott Studd out to sign autographs.
Reggie Bennett versus Bert Prentice. Lots of talking between the two with Bert, dressed like Jerry the King Lawler, drawing his "line in the sand" and Bennett stepping across it. Bennett finally cracks Bert in the face and comes back by dropping the straps before opening up with knifehand chops. The surprise comes in Bert backing Reggie into the corner before opening up on her. A body slam and an elbow drop and Bert with the cover before being thrown off. It all went downhill from there as Bennett goes to her powergame and works Bert over. A bearhug has him in all kinds of trouble before he is thrown around the ring. Bert makes a small comeback when the fans start chanting his name which stops Bennett in her tracks but it is short lived when he starts listening as well and she spears him before making the cover.
KAW Tag Team Title time with the Vols carrying their unrecognized title belts to the ring. Studd and the Body the underdogs here with the cheers and the heavily booed Vols play up their heel role. Lots of taunts before the start and once underway, the Vols show exactly why they say they are the #1 team in Kick Ass Wrestling. Smooth double teams and transitions along with some questionable tactics makes this look like it is going to be a short match. An isolated Scott Studd takes quite a beating. Midway through the match, we get someone comes out to the ring ...
MISSY HYATT?!?!?!
The Body is able to make the hot tag and gets the fans going with the Vols taking a beating. Missy, in the Body's corner keeps trying to get his attention, offering up her purse but is ignored. This sets off some words between the Body and Studd which allows the Vols to get back in control of the match. Several close calls for the Vols but the Studd and the Body aren't quite finished yet. With Scotty in the ring, Missy distracts the referee while handing her purse off to Studd. Riggins has Scotty in his corner where Doll gets in some shots. We've got more commotion from the back with Todd Morton running out to the ring. Riggins is stopped from shooting Scotty for the far ropes when Morton grabs his leg and trips him up. A reversal and Scotty whips Riggins across the ring, right into Studd who is waiting with the purse! He clobbers Riggins who comes staggering off the ropes, right into Scotty ... DDT! DDT! Scotty with the hesitant cover and Missy lets go of referee Ed Rusk. We have the cover, the count ... 1! 2! 3!
SCOTTY THE BODY AND SCOTT STUDD ARE THE KICK ASS WRESTLING TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!!!
In the commotion afterwards, Todd Morton hightails it out of there, tapping his head, having outsmarted the Vols for their involvement in Morton's semi-final match that eleiminated them from the tournament.
Title match #2. Doug Gilbert and Mike Samples though quiet of late, had several very bloody battles between them a month back. This one picked up where they left off following some words and a shoving match between them. Inside the ring and outside of it, anything not nailed down is fair game to be used as a weapon ... while not the official rules, referee Al Hall gives both men a wide berth and lets them duck it out to their heart's content which is much appreciated byt the fans who are split on who to cheer for. It isn't long before both are bleeding like stuck pigs. Several times, Doug asks the fans "What would Eddie do?" before nailing Samples with some big move. They both seem more content to beat the other one up which draws the match out. The end comes with a horrible spill as Samples climbs the ropes and from the top is knocked from his perch when Gilbert staggers and hits the ropes. Falling, Samples lands across the top rope and falls to the outside, hitting the ring apron before crashing awkwardly to the floor. A concerned Al Hall is forced to count by Doug Gilbert. Not much movement from Samples and the fans are on their feet to get a better view.
DOUG GILBERT HAS WON THE KAW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE BY COUNTOUT AFTER NEARLY 25 GRUELLING MINUTES OF BRUTALITY!!!
We've got the main event that everyone has been waiting for. Lots on the line, some of which might mean more than winning a title. If the Snowman and Brickhouse win, they are given full contracts to compete in KAW. Should they lose, the Outsiders are forced to leave KAW for good! Lot of jawing between all four the bell. Noticeably missing are Bert Prentice, Reggie Bennett and Kevin Lawler. The only extra here is the Midget, sporting a Kick Ass Icon t-shirt. As might have been expected, the Icons take a beating from their bigger and more experienced opponents. JC Fargo is ragdolled around the ring and is nearly pinned several times but timely intervention by Jamie Dundee breaks it up. As the match wears on, the heavily muscled Snowman starts slowing down, giving the younger Icons the opening they need. Some double teaming and the fans chanting for them, we have a turning of the tables and the Icons make their comeback. Even the Midget gets in a shot or two before being shooed out of the ring.
Some fifteen minutes in, the Snowman gets busted open when he charges into the corner and Dundee steps out of the way. Hitting the ring post, the Snowman comes up bleeding which is made worse as Jamie puts the right hands to his opponent. Backed across the ring, Snowman is able to be tagged out by Brown who takes some double teaming and just barely kicks out of a two and nine-tenths count. A pancake after being lifted by both Fargo and Dundee, we have the end of the match. Whipped across the ring, Brown is able to make a blindtag. Bouncing back off the ropes, Brickhouse Brown is floored by a double dropkick. With Jamie Dundee ushered from the ring, JC Fargo turns his attention back to the match where the Snowman waits ... HUGE SPEAR!!! And the angry Snowman pops back to his feet. He pulls Fargo to his feet and scoops him before shaking the ring with an even bigger powerslam. Ed Rusk turns back to the match where the Snowman has hooked the leg ...
