Live at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, Louisiana
The Sheepherders (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) defeat The Masked Assassins at 6:01 after a double gut buster. After the match, the Herders attack the Assassins, clawing at their masks, biting at their foreheads AND STABBING THEM IN THE HEAD WITH PENCILS! Finally, officials hit the ring and pull the crazed Herders off their defenseless opponents!
These are NOT the Bushwhackers of old, my friends!
Gary Albright defeats Barry Horowitz at 4:11 after hitting him with a German suplex and then applying a seated arm bar. The suplex did not knock out Horowitz which angered Albright. He kept the arm bar on well after Barry submitted until officials had to pry him off. Jim Cornette was out scouting Gary Albright during this match.
The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy) defeated Hector and Mando Guerrero at 12:00 when Michael Hayes pinned Mando Guerrero with a DDT. Hayes looked more confident this week even when things didn't do his way. He still needed Gordy to bail him out but when he was tagged back in he cleaned house and finished off Mando.
Intermission – The Freebirds stayed at ringside, playing to the crowd when Michael Hayes' favorite person Jim Cornette came out. Cornette ran down Hayes again saying that even Hayes tries, it's just NOT good enough. This Sunday Night, Jim Cornette is bringing his NEW team to the UWF and he looks straight at Hayes when he says there is NO weak link in his team. Hayes looks discourages as the 'Birds head to the back.
Bob and Brad Armstrong and “Prime Time” Brian Lee vs. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel, “Dirty” Dutch Mantell, and Al Snow – Mr. Hughes was not present at ringside. The bad guys cornered Brian Lee and used quick double teams and illegal tactics to put him in peril. Finally, Bob and Brad had enough, ran in and knocked Buddy and Dutch off the apron. This evened things up for Lee who was able to fend off Hart and tag in Bob Armstrong.
At this point Buddy and Dutch decided they had enough, waved off the match, and headed to the back leaving Al Snow all by himself! The look on Snow's face when he realized he was all alone was priceless. The good guys all took turns ping ponging Snow and beating him up until Lee pins him at 19:45 after a torture rack back breaker. The fans are quickly warming up to “Prime Time.”
Big Van Vader vs. Junkyard Dog - “Another One Bites the Dust” hits the speakers and everyone in the Coliseum is on their feet for JYD. JYD and Vader meet in the center of the ring where Vader repeatedly beats his chest while JYD barks. The bell rings and JYD holds his own...momentarily.
JYD staggers him with a series of headbutts and comes off the ropes looking for something but instead runs right into a body avalanche from Vader. Vader mockingly barks at JYD while driving forearm after forearm into his chest and face. With the crowd cheering for him, all the sudden JYD starts to shake off Vader's strikes and he fires back. All fired up, JYD goes for the 'Big Thump'...but he can't even lift Vader off of his feet!
Big Van Vader shakes his head 'no' and sends JYD into the turnbuckles before squashing him with an avalanche splash. He stumbles out of the corner while Big Van Vader...climbs to the second buckle? OH MY GOD – FLYING LARIAT FROM THE SECOND BUCKLE! JYD's head was taken clean off. Vader is back up and he pulls JYD to the corner – VADER SPLASH! ONE, TWO, THREE! Big Van Vader has picked up another big victory at 7:45.
Vader leaves the ring, screaming “WHOSE THE MAN?” Meanwhile in the ring, the Dog starts to the stirr. The crowd is chanting “JYD!” “JYD!” The Junkyard Dog taps into their cheers and their chants and manages to pull himself up to his knees. And he barks. And the crowd explodes. And Big Van Vader turns around, looking pissed off. Jim Cornette coerces him to the back but something tells me this issue isn't over yet.
Jim Duggan vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams – This match came about due to Duggan feeling slighted about what went down on “Power Pro Wrestling” this past week. Duggan's ribs are still taped and there is NO handshake to start. Both men are more aggressive with Doc doing exactly what he didn't do on TV – targeting Jim's injured ribs.
“Dr. Death” hammers and hammers Duggan but Duggan tosses him into the corner, closes the gap between them and punishes him with his own strikes. Referee Sandy Scott gets in between the two and there is a clean break BUT as soon as Scott is out of the way, the two behemoths go back at it. The crowd is split about 60/40 with the majority behind Steve Williams.
Williams is able take control by punishing the midsection of Duggan and dropping him with a rib buster. This time Williams sets up the three-point stance in the corner and awaits for Duggan to get up. When Doc charges, Duggan sees him coming and charges at him! The two meet in the center of the colliding shoulder to shoulder! Doc bounces off the ropes to shoulder block him again but Duggan hits him with a SPEAR! One, two, NO! Doc's back up – CLOTHESLINE! Doc goes down again – ONE, TWO, NO! NO!
Jim Duggan is breathing pretty heavily as he comes off the ropes for a jumping knee drop but Steve Williams rolls out of the way! Duggan gets back up just in time to be hit by the homing missile known as “Dr. Death's” three-point stance shoulder block RIGHT INTO DUGGAN's INJURED ribs! ONE, TWO, THREE! Steve Williams wins this hard-hitting, knock out drag out fight at 17:29!
Steve Williams extends a helping hand to Duggan who instead crawls away from Doc. He grasps on to the middle and with one hand holding his ribs he pulls himself to his feet. Duggan comes back at Doc AND NOW EXTENDS HIS HAND TO HIM! Steve accepts it and raises his hand!
WAIT A SECOND – out comes Jim Cornette and Big Van Vader! Cornette says that it took very little to pit these supposed “friends” at each others throats. How good of friends can they possibly be when they can't even trust one another? Cornette calls himself the perfect puppet master because all he had to do was say that little line last week and then sit back and watch Duggan and Williams beat each others brains in. AGAIN!
Jim Cornette laughs evilly as he announces that in fact Jim Duggan WILL NOT be Vader's partner next Sunday night in New Orleans. The man who WILL BE Vader's partner will be on “Power Pro Wrestling” this week, IN the main event!
Vader snatches the mic from Cornette: “Steve Williams, little man, YOU GOT THREE DAYS LEFT TO LIVE! WHOSE THE MAN?”
Before they leave Cornette gets on the mic to say that maybe it's time that Duggan and Williams think about who they have watching their back around here...
