I'm sorry. I've read over this post a couple of times. Is Valiant being billed from somewhere other than NYC?
If not, then I don't see the harm of the "Hillbilly" remark. Compared to the Wall Street boys, Valiant would be considered a NY hillbilly.
Khan would refer to Hank Hill and them as 'Hillbillies' though we knew they weren't. It's just something that folks call others sometimes.
That aside, I thought the show was alright but didn't care too much for 'seeing' the backstage antics of Gagne. Other than that though, I thought it was alright.

Yeah but Hank Hill was from the south and not a New York City guy. Just an odd insult for one NYC guy to toss out to another.

lol The irony of that is the episode where it's discovered Hank was born in NYC lol
Yeah, but it happens more than you might think. My ex used to kiddingly call herself a hillbilly though she was born and raised in Cincinnati. Kentucky was about 35 minutes away but yeah, folks say that lol.

"Hillbilly" is definitely something that's reserved for southern folk - every bit as much as "Yankee" is directed as people from up north. That's just the way it is. Pretending it isn't won't change a thing. ;D
Calling Valiant gutter-trash, a hobo, or anything of that sort would be fine. That's passable. Hillbilly? Not so much. After hearing from Brent, my understanding is that he simply mistook Valiant's hobo-like appearance (mostly the scruffy beard) as a hillbilly trait. It stemmed from that, from what I gather. Just a minor error & a simple case of poor research. That's all.
Easy to see how that stuff can happen. After all, Handsome Jimmy spent plenty of time tearing up the southern territories. It's where he's most well-known. So yeah. Forgive & forget. Moving on...
I still dig his dialogue & presentation here. The Valiant character is truckloads of fun, in any region. Don't care at all for the politics & backstage nonsense though, as usual.

Brilliant!
Correct me if I am wrong but you write on that (cough) other board? The take here is similar in nature to that written elsewhere.
I enjoyed what you presented as a first (?) show being it was the only one I could find. Seeing that you announced a return show in two weeks, can't wait to see what that brings. Will we get the same odd assortment of performers and knock-offs.
The only thing I must question is some of the material at the start of your show. Since this was a "live" show, was the backstage hijinks only for our benefit? While is does set your show apart from all the rest here, perhaps there is a better way to bring this to the rest of your audience or done in a different format?
Cheers!
