Monday At The Mid-South
"Tag Team Turmoil"
Monday Night 6/25/92
Mid-South Coliseum
Memphis, Tenesee
Controversy in the opening match kicks off "Tag Team Turmoil" as the match took some time to kick off as Koko B. Ware was no where to be seen. Without waiting for an official word, New Jack & Wolfie D (who were accompanied by the street thugs from this past Saturday's video) attack the Spellbinder and we've got ourselves a handi-capped match. The official of course forces the duo to tag in and out against the big man, who surprisingly holds his own in there. Finish see's the wide eyed fellow on the outside (laughing throughout the match) trip up the Binder leading to Wolfie taking advantage and connecting with his inverted DDT finish handing the Spellbinder his first official loss at 7:17.
Post Match- The ring quickly fills up with trash, with New Jack baiting the crowd as they continue to shout slurs in his direction. He's interrupted by....
DOOMSDAY! To a pop as a result of Jack of course, so yeah, they quickly get the heck out of there as Doomsday (w/ Van Horne at his side of course) turns his attention to Spellbinder as he recovers. The big man chokes the life out of Binder, BUT HERE COMES...
THE BRUISE BROTHERS for the save before any more damage can be done! They take the fight to Doomsday, numbers in their favor of course... BUT HERE COMES THE BLACKHEARTS! Van Horne gets Doomsday (who isn't selling jack of course) to walk to the back, and the scheduled tag team match between the two duos starts RIGHT FREAKING NOW!
The Blackhearts (Apocalypse & Destruction) then proceeded to battle to a double count out with the Bruise Brothers (Don & Ron Harris) As Van Horne remained at ringside. This was wild and out of control and clearly is only the first of many wars between these two teams. As it spill to the outside and remains there. Total time was 11:45.
The USWA Tag Team Championship was on the line next as The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) defended the gold against Billy Joe Travis & Rod the Bodyguard. Super fun match, good deal of heckling from the crowd as the "Crybaby" chant was in full effect as per usual. Long match goes about 25 minutes or so before Rogers & Fulton are able to pick up the win pinning Travis off the Rocket Launcher at 25:46.
Post Match- After the Fantastics leave the ringside area, we get a dose of the water works as Travis loses it in the middle of the ring.
Intermission
During intermission we've got a reminder of the Big July 2nd show right here next week. Here is the card as it stands right now:
Main Event
NWA World Championship: Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat defends against "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol.
USWA Heavyweight Championship: Terry Funk defends against former champion "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert.
NWA World Tag Team Championship: The Steiner Brothers make their USWA debut to defend against USWA Tag Team Champions: The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton)
+ UWF stars The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry Gordy & Michael P.S. Hayes) will be in action!
Back from intermission with our lone singles match and it's NON-title with USWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion: Brian Christopher going one on one with "Simply Irresistible" Jeff Jarrett. Crowd was hot for this one, Christopher continues to shine in his heel role here. Simply fantastic match with a ton of heat. Clean finish with Jarrett avoiding the superkick and hitting a side russian legsweep. Second rope dropkick gets Double J the victory at 19:11. I think it's safe to say that Brian Christopher has a new no.1 in J-E Double F J-A-Double R-E- Double T!
Tag Team Action follows as the brand new Dangerous Alliance Duo of Greg "the Hammer" Valentine & TV5 Champion "Terrific" Terry Taylor w/ Paul E. Dangerously battled "Superstar" Bill Dundee & Marcus Bagwell. Dundee is favoring his knee here, and it shows. Of course the heels take advantage of this throughout the bout. Paul E. gets involved at times. Bagwell continues to look like a star, just gotta point that out real quick. Finish see's Paul provide a distraction as Taylor is up in a Dundee body slam, Valentine clips the leg and Taylor falls on top to score yet another pin over the Superstar at 16:48.
The big handi-capped match followed as Jerry "the King" Lawler & "Suicide Blonde" Chris Candido battled the East Coast Brotherhood (Bad Crew & Bam Bam Bigelow) w/ "Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble. Bad Crew might suck, but with Bam Bam backing them up they go on a tear for a good long stretch with Candido playing baby face in peril. The numbers game appears to be too much for the faces, but then the unthinkable happens.... something the King had warned Bam Bam of weeks ago.... With all three men (with Rumble holding 'em in the corner)tearing into Candido, Lawler shoves past the official, spins Bigelow arround and..
FIREBALL!! FIREBALL! THE KING THROWS FIRE AT BAM BAM BIGELOW FOR THE DQ at 15:01!
They don't look like winners, but the Brotherhood wins, as Rumble is in a state of panic, his freaking meal ticket has just been burnt with a fireball! Medics hit the ring as the crowd roars in approval!
Main Event's a huge one as the USWA Heavyweight Champion: Terry Funk teams with NWA World Heavyweight Champion: Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat to battle the Dangerous Alliance Duo of "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert & "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol w/ Paul EDangerously. . It doesn't get any bigger than this, and fittingly just one week before the big July 2nd show. Awesome freaking match, tons of heat on the heels, baby face come backs, the whole nine. Great finish as Steamboat's legal but caught up with Idol in the corner, as Gilbert LEVELS Terry Funk behind the officials back with Paul E. cell phone! Gilbert turns to gloat, but look at Steamboat who connects with a kick on Idol sending him crashing from the apron to the floor... keep your eye on the Dragon...
